Lee (2222 KP) rated The Space Between Us (2017) in Movies
Jan 23, 2018 (Updated Jan 23, 2018)
Very dull
It's in such a rush to get to the point where it can be a tragic love story, with our two young lovers on the run, that the movie completely forgets about plausibility and doesn't give us any time to believe in any of the feelings and emotions being experienced. I haven't read the book that this awful movie is based on but I can imagine that it goes into much needed detail a lot more than this does.

Dean (6927 KP) rated The Warriors (1979) in Movies

Warriors, come out to play
Ok maybe I missed something? I'm not quite sure about the cult status for this. It's a decent film with a young cast, and probably quite different at the time it was made. However it has a very simple plot, less fighting than I expected and a bit repetitive. I liked the almost comic "uniforms" for the different gangs, some of the fight scenes are pretty good, but overall I was expecting a lot more.

A little bit action and a whole lot of nostalgia
Very possible future society. Full story that ends with twists and turns, with a completely relatable protagonist. Wade's behavior and perspectives are realistic and attainable - he reminds me of my 18 year old in many ways. Also, if you do the audiobook, Wil Wheaton narrates, and he's a wonderful narrator.

Entertainment Editor (1988 KP) rated Seasons in Tabletop Games

I really like Seasons. It’s a chaotic game, but it’s manageable. Especially with two players. The more players, the less control you have.
The timing element makes this game really interesting. You can manipulate the game and your opponents a lot by choosing or not choosing certain cards or dice. That, plus the card effects themselves and especially the effects of the Familiars, make this game very interactive.

Sean Farrell (9 KP) rated The Hidden Reality: Parallel Universes and the Deep Laws of the Cosmos in Books
Mar 15, 2018
This was an absolutely fascinating book, even if it felt like it was sometimes going over my head. I will advise anyone who doesn't have an especially good pre-existing grasp on theoretical physics to perhaps avoid reading the footnotes as you go along, as it can actually make some of the information harder to absorb. That being said, there is much to learn in these pages, and if nothing else, it will certainly leave you with a lot to think about.

All of the crew (1 more)
Always funny
Always putstanding
The giant beastcast is a weekly podcast (out every friday) that talk about video games mainly. They go down some rabbit holes but it's always entertaining listening to whatever they talk about. They all work at giantbomb.com (except for one who works at cnet). Every member of the podcast definitely has their own personality and they all mesh well and add a lot to the podcast. Highly recommend for a good listen every week.

Good idea for story (2 more)
Based closely on true life
Likeable characters
Story stretched out too much (1 more)
Not a fan of the jumps between, Not always obvious who and where you are
Not what I was expecting - but ok read
I did finish and enjoy this book to an extent. I read it as it's been raved about on social media and I don't think it deserved the hype. Was Good, but I skipped a lot of unnecessary detail and the end was disappointing

BobbiesDustyPages (1259 KP) rated The Disappointments Room (2016) in Movies
Feb 21, 2018
Should have locked its self up
This movie had a lot of potential but from the start you can tell that they didn't really know where they were going with it the acting was pretty bad the plot while there just never really took off and near the end it's kind of like they didn't know what they were doing and just slapped a bunch of stuff together and then Tada it was over, very weird pacing overall definitely let down.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2346 KP) rated Peppermint Twisted (A Candy Shop Mystery, #3) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
The annual arts festival is approaching in Paradise, Colorado, but a last minute switch of the person in charge doesn't make anyone happy. When the new chairwoman is murdered in the parking lot of Abby's candy store, things get even hotter. I love the characters, and the plot kept me guessing. As with the previous books, the ending was rather abrupt.

Andy K (10823 KP) rated The Hitman's Bodyguard (2017) in Movies
Mar 11, 2018
Not terribly creative, but gets the job done
Maybe Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson will be the next Mel Gibson and Danny Glover or Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan!
Entertaining throughout with some witty dialogue and creative action scenes, you could certainly do a lot worse than this action comedy.
The Reynolds-Jackson chemistry is what works best in the film and takes you through some of the dull moments.
I was entertained throughout.
