The English Patient (1996)
The English Patient (1996)
1996 | Drama, Romance, War

"The English Patient I saw when I was really young, and the love story just devastated me, I think. You know, I was just sobbing. I loved it. Beautiful images. Something that can evoke that much emotion out of me — I was just really moved. So those are five that just come straight to the surface. You must get all kinds of people naming these obscure-ass movies though, right?"

"I’m a big fan of animation. I was just talking to my manager about how amazing How to Train Your Dragon is. The animation is out of this world, and the story… And I love that animated films now have evolved so much that they’re real heart-wrenching stories. It’s not just for kids, but adults enjoy them now as well. It’s just such a beautifully done film."

The Iron Giant (1999)
1999 | Animation, Family, Sci-Fi

"Brad Bird is a triple badass. That’s all there is to it. I would have said Incredibles but I watched Giant more. It was so ground breaking with the mixed media. Great story, great characters, good heart, super smooth filmmaking AND Christopher McDonald is in it and I love him. Too bad they marketed a bunch of other movies that year. Good thing there’s life after death on DVD."

I don't know how to feel about this! I enjoyed it a lot but I did speed through a lot of it in order to get it finished so I'm not entirely sure if I fully got the whole story. I enjoyed the narration but I'd love to set aside time and actually read this again because I think I'd probably get more from it a second time through

4.5 stars.

This is not my usual read at all. I tend to like nice, gentle love stories and this is rather dark, but I was captivated and intrigued beyond belief by Richard.

It kept me guessing where it was going: Why did he want Cassidy? Did he kill his wife? Where were his children?

I certainly wasn't disappointed when I found out the answers. A brilliant story.

Hmm

I feel a little let down by this but for me, this author is hit and miss. Some I love, some I don't. This is definitely of the latter. The style was a little strange for me in the first part, like it was told in short before expanding into a fuller story after the first call out of the FBI.

Oh, well, on to another book I go.
