Sarah (7798 KP) rated Brooklyn (2015) in Movies

A heartwarming coming of age story
Brooklyn’s plot is fairly uncomplicated and straight forward, but it’s the execution that makes this film worth watching. It’s such a beautiful and heart warming tale of an Irish immigrant in America, filled with drama, sadness and even a bit of comedy. Saiorse Ronan is brilliant, and she’s the main reason why this film is worth watching. Emory Cohen too is simply adorable as Eilis’s American love interest and this relationship is so heart warming to watch.
My only criticism about this film is that Eilis’s return to Ireland seemed a little rushed and whilst the ending itself was fairly sweet and satisfying, I feel like they could’ve done much more with it.

What an incredibly fabulous book!! I devoured the first two books in the series and Alexei & Talia's story sucked me in from page one! My heart broke over and over for these two, both two haunted souls unable to move beyond their pasts. Struggling to feel worthy in anyone's eyes... Talia finds strength in his overpowering dominance and in her he finds solace. A dark yet incredibly beautiful book about two people who slowly come to realize that no matter how screwed up any of us are, we are all worthy of love and forgiveness. HIGHLY recommended book, series and author!! Five stars just aren't doing my heart any justice on this one!? ;-)

Wouldn’t watch again
Contains spoilers, click to show
I should start by saying I watched the first film every day for a fortnight, such is my love for it. I was really disappointed by this version. Lily James did well taking in the role of young Donna but the story was so disjointed. For example, Sophie is sick once and knows she is pregnant? I also feel Cher’s role was unnecessary, she’s never been on the scene for Donna or Sophie then she turns up, decides to be grandma and is immediately accepted, just so she can sing a couple of numbers?
Good choice of ABBA dogs, not the most expected ones.

Fun Christmas Read
This is a great book for anyone looking to get into the holiday spirit. The plot is much like that for your typically Hallmark movie, and I for one love it.
Evie is a dancer who finds herself in the small town of Fools Gold after she is injured. The story follows her as she reconnects with her family, and fights against her attraction for the boy next door.
This is technically part of a series, but you do not need to be familer with the other books to enjoy it. I do want to read the other books as soon as possible now. Mostly in hopes of my favorite characters making an appearance.

Sarah Betts (103 KP) rated Storm and Fury (The Harbinger, #1) in Books

I received a copy of Storm and Fury from Netgalley and Harlequin Teen in exchange for an honest review.
Sexy shapeshifting gargoyle boys! Count me in!
I was initially confused because this one jumps right into the story. Turns out it's a spin-off, so that explains a lot.
It started of a little slow but once the action starts it doesn't really let up.
I really liked Trinity. She could have easily been an obnoxious Chosen One type but the book managed to avoid that.
Also Trinity is disabled which I appreciate so much as a disabled woman. Every bit of representation matters and I love the matter of fact way a degenerative disease is s dealt with.

Milleen (47 KP) rated The Tattooist of Auschwitz in Books

The beautiful narrative follows the life of Lale, a Slovakian linguist who finds himself labouring as a ‘Tätowierer‘ within a concentration camp. The interactions of the prisoners and their captors portrays the full spectrum of humanity. Knowing that the cast of real life characters may not survive the war, is a stark reminder that every one of the seventeen million people who died during the Holocaust, had a story of their own. There are a number of formidable novels that depict this harrowing time, they ensure we never forget the strength and tenacity it took to live and love in the harshest of circumstances. Definitely one to read before the film is released.

Puzzles and discoveries
Fantastic Lovecraftian D&D lite style rpg
I absolutely love this game. It is a very complex story drive dog with Lovecraftian themes and monsters. Its a perfect way for his stories to come to life and each scenario does feel like solving a mysterious puzzle. There are only 4 scenarios in the core box but a load of expansions and additional online content. Everyome who I play this with loves it. The app saves a lot of time which would be the dm to figuring out what to do next. Its not a cheap game but in my opinion very well worth it.

Beautiful family
Painfully Tragic and Beautifully Romantic
When I started Everything I Never Told You, I expected it to be a story of a family suffering a loss and finding the answers through old journals or realizations of their lost daughter.
Yes, the family learns things about her they did not know, but how I expected it to go down was WAY OFF.
We are able to grow with the kids, through poignant memories. We fall in love with both of the parents as they each reminisce. I felt the betrayal of the mistakes they made and the pure pride and joy as they grew as a family and as people.

Lindsay (1717 KP) rated Ted the Friendly Frog and the Tale of the Diamond in Books
Dec 19, 2019
We get introduced to Ted. We find out how he spends his day. Though in the first adventure he has. It when his grandfather asks him to watch a diamond of his.
As you read. You find out that Ted as a mishap? Will he tell his grandfather. Will Ted learn his lesson. You can learn from your mistakes. I enjoy how the author does this. Children will learn about making mistakes. Will they learn to listen to their parents and friends?
The author does well with this. The pictures are done well. I love how the story is told with the pictures. There even rhyming going on throughout the book. Children can learn to read as well.
