Fast paced
Story is growing and growing
It gets better!
Love it when a series get better in the second book, I absolutely love the story that is developing and cannot wait to read the next one. The characters are great and the relationships dynamic.
I love love love the new magical aspect, it is very good and interesting!
Such a good reveal, although the person realising the reveal takes faaaaaar too long!! I was so excited to read the last few pages.
I cannot wait to read the next book and I'm so glad I don't have to wait for releases.
My only negative comment would be around Celeana's fighting technique which is one minute flawless and the next minute pretty all over the place.

A stunning masterpiece. Melding history and fantasy into an unforgettable story.
I can not get over just how much I have come to love this story! There is so much history in this story that I was shocked by how well the author was able to mingle such a rich fantasy aspect to the story as well.
This story has so much to captivate the imagination, magic, romance, battles, plots, alliances, and true history! Brandes has created such a world of Colors that makes me believe color speak is possible. I am so impressed I am in a sort of color-daze.
The bottom line, if you enjoy YA Fantasy you will fall in LOVE with this story. If you enjoy historical books but haven't been brave enough to give the fantasy genre a try yet...I have a feeling you will enjoy this one. So be brave, give it a try...You may just fall in love with a new author!
I received a complimentary copy of Fawkes from the publishers. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

Feb 8, 2018
This coming of age story is set in a small town in Maine. There is some mystery but mostly it is the story of a young girl dealing with tragedy, heartbreak, and growing up. I fell in love with Florine and hope that the rest of her life goes smoother than her first 17 years!

The book that inspired me to read
This may be an older story but without it I highly doubt idve read half as much when I was younger. This story ignited my imagination and really installed in me a love of reading (before that I only read what I had to for school homework).

Lindsay (1779 KP) rated A Silken Thread in Books
Jul 1, 2019
I love the fact, that A Silken Thread is mostly a historical fiction book with a little bit of romance. The author does a really good job of telling a story though three main characters. The story is based around the Cotton Exposition of 1895. We learn a bit about what life a bit after the civil war and what life is like for southerners.
Their a story about African American and whites though out the story. Though we have a bit of story with a fourth character as well. Laurel is looking for someone to love her and find maybe find love along the way. She applies to be a weaver in the silk room.
Willie applies to the Cotton Exposition for he want to help pay for his fathers hospital bills and to help him get better. Willie friend Quincy has gotten a job their as well. We also have Langdon. What the author show though out the book is how world is viewed between each character. She does a well job of it.

Basically a porno (3 more)
Terrible story
Badly put together
Bad acting
Contains spoilers, click to show
The main guy claimed to be all about love but I didn't see it. He was an abusive pill/coke head who slept with anyone with a pulse. Basically was porn which would be fine if that's what was advertised. Extremely graphical real sex scenes. It was clear more attention went in to the sex scenes than the actual story which gave even more of a porn vibe. It had a terrible story line that jumped all over the place so you could barely keep up with what was a memory and what was supposed to be the present. Terrible acting especially from the girls.
If I had put it on expecting porn I would have rated it a bit higher but because it wasn't described as a porno I expected a love story with sex scenes but not actual sex from the opening scene. Even the trailer on here portrays it as a love story with the usual movie sex scenes.
