Debbiereadsbook (1171 KP) rated Smith's Corner: Delilah & Dallas (The Heartwood Series #1) in Books
Jun 25, 2021
This is the first book in the Heartwood series. It's also this author's first step into the world of male/female pairings. She usually writes male/male.
And I have to say, I really rather enjoyed it!
Delilah is young, only 20, but she has a wise head on her shoulders. She knows Dallas is a player, he makes no bones about that, but he also makes no bones about wanting Delilah. And NOT just for a quick tumble. When strange things start happening in Delilah's bakery, Dallas and his brothers step up and the two become close. When Delilah's life is threatened, Dallas loses his head and goes all Alpha male, protect what's mine.
Like I said, first step in this genre for this author, and she kinda nails it! I AM left with questions about Delilah and her mum and sister, but I know what those questions are, and surprisingly, I can voice them! Which for me, makes a change. But I'll come back to those.
Dallas is the youngest Smith brother, and this series revolves around them. They own a bar, and Delilah and her mother own a bakery in the space next door. He lusts after Delilah, and not just in a one-night stand way. When she finally relents and goes on a date with him, Dallas is smitten, and tumbles, head over heels in love. It takes Delilah a little longer, but she falls just as hard!
I could see who the bad guy was, right from when they popped up in the bakery, and that went down much as I expected it to, even if Delilah couldn't see the danger right in front of her.
I loved ALL the brothers, I really did. They all have their quirks, and their personalities, and they all have a story to tell. I mean, Stone and Delilah's best friend, Storm? Their story, well . . .I HOPE their story is going to be explosive, given what goes on here. Levi is already making goo-goo eyes at Layla. Their story is next. Ash, ohhhh Ash has a BIG story to tell, and his book is number 3, and that blurb has set all sorts of questions in my head and I have no idea where that is going! And then there is Fox. I have no clue what's going on there. While he doesn't SAY anything, I feel that his story might be a difficult read!
Back to my questions, which I'm reliably told, may well be answered in book 2, given as that's Layla's book and she holds all the cards. There is much HINTED at, about how and why the girls came to Smith's Corner. But that's all it is, HINTED at! And you know, when you get clues, and you put them together, and you make a picture of your own? I have done that, and I'm not saying what kind of picture I made, but I'm fairly certain, it's going to be worse, MUCH worse.
So hurry, Ms Paton, and release book 2, I need those answers!
A thoroughly enjoyable step out of this author's comfort zone, and a thoroughly enjoyable read.

ArecRain (8 KP) rated Snow's Submission (A Snow White Werewolf Tale, #2) in Books
Jan 18, 2018
This is supposed to be a Snow White retelling but I really couldnt see it. Regardless, its an erotic fairytale retelling which is right up my alley. Its heavy on the erotica while still having enough plot to push the story forward. Normally I would be aggravated that this story is divided into three parts but I knew that going in and already had the rest of the story so I didnt have to wait for the rest.
I love friends to lovers stories, especially childhood friends. I would like to say I enjoyed the premise to this story but honestly I thought it was stupid. I wish I had better word but there it is. Now you may be saying but you knew that going in! Honestly, I was hoping it was going to be a ménage. I guess it was just wishful thinking, because what I got instead was the age old hey let me ask my male friend how to seduce this other male but wait my friend wants me trope.
As the second in the series, Snows Submission continues with the heat and erotic scenes. However, I found myself disenchanted with Snow. I felt like she could have been a stronger lead and I wasnt happy with how she handled the situation. At the same time, I understand the predicament she was in and furious with those who put her there.
That being said, I wont ruin anything for you.
Debbiereadsbook (1171 KP) rated Cowboy In The Crosshairs (Dreamspun Desires #53) in Books
Mar 6, 2018
I liked this, I really did. Its just the characters tend to jump about with their thinking and it got a little difficult trying to keep up in places!
BUT!!!
A great easy read, as usual from Tortuga!
Wacey comes home after an accident and TJ is Sheriff in town now. They split some ten years before, for one reason or other, to be honest I wasn't entirely sure WHY they split! But it's clear they still have an attraction that won't go away. When it becomes obvious that the "accident" might not have been, TJ goes into deep protection mode, and Wacey welcomes it. The culprit is caught, but will Wacey leave TJ again??
Like I said, a really easy read! Told from both Wacey and TJ's point of view, we get how each man feels seeing the other for the first time, their reactions then and after. It's not overly explicit, because it's a DreamSpun Desires, from DreamSpinner, but there is enough that is right for this book. While I do tend to prefer my male/male romances on the more explicit side, I really did enjoy this one with that little bit less.
The story flows well (apart from the jumping around the minds of the guys did!) and I saw no spelling or editing errors. I did not get who was trying to get Wacey until it was revealed in the book!
A perfect way to spend a snowed in Friday afternoon!

Debbiereadsbook (1171 KP) rated Dog Days (Wolf Winter #1) in Books

I struggled with which shelves to file this one. It kinda straddles a couple of categories. It's not any sort of romance, at all. The creatures made by the Prophet really are the stuff of nightmares, so I've filed it as horror, werewolves, and male/male, because Jack and Danny to get it on.
I also struggled reading it. Usually, being drip fed hints and clues as to what is happening both above and below The Wall, keeps me on my toes and keeps my fully engaged. But there were not enough of them! I kept having to double back, seeing if I missed something along the way.
The story itself is good, but because of the lack of drip feeding, I have huge gaps in my knowledge of these people and their world.
It does get a bit graphic, when dealing with the Prophet's creations, and these are mostly why I've filed it as horror.
Jack and Danny has history, but that isn't fully explained, and I wanted to know more about what happened.
I loved Ms Moore's Bone To Pick, a unrelated book to this, but this one, not so much. I have Stone The Crows to read next, which is Jack's brother, Gregor's story. Upon writing this review, I'm nearly done with that one. Finding it a much better read!

Dee R (8 KP) rated the Xbox One version of Fallout 4 in Video Games

It's not what you think as a gamer though. You go into the vault and expect to live there? wrong you get frozen!
You are frozen for years until this man comes into the vault and thaws you, your partner and baby out. But they only want your baby and when your partner doesn't give him up, they sadly get shot and killed. That's the last fresh memory you have as you again get frozen.
Only to thaw out a few years later to venture out into what is left of your home, and to find your son.
The whole game is revolved around finding Sean, however you get the options to help different factions; The Minutemen, Brotherhood of Steel, The Railroad or The Institute. Each quest you do for one of those factions alters how the others see you. And eventually you have to choose a main faction to follow. The rest become enemies.
When this time comes you find what happened to your son, you struggle to grasp the situation and can do 1 of 2 things. You can carry on his legacy or you can destroy it.
It's all down to you.
Merissa (11958 KP) rated Dread Pirate Arcanist (Frith Chronicles #2) in Books
Nov 13, 2019
It starts with Volke and Illia both wanting to see griffins up-close-and-personal. However, the arcanists are called to action when the eldest griffin male and one of his cubs both go missing. Then it appears two boys have also disappeared. Whilst teamed up with someone Volke didn't really want to be teamed up with, they not only find the boys and the cub, but also find out the male griffin is ill.
The story only gets more involved from there. With manticores, mimics, and kappas, to name just a few, there is magic galore in this book, and I love how Volke is both self-deprecating and yet is prepared to dive headfirst into danger if his friends are in trouble. Master Zelfree has grown on me immeasurably and I would love to hear more from Gillie.
This world is simply amazing, with plenty to keep you occupied. The pacing is once again perfect, and the pages nearly turn themselves! I have loved catching up with this world, and can't wait to continue my adventure there. I just hope Volke leans how to cast without any pain!
Most definitely recommended by me, but I would suggest you start with book one, just so you know what has gone on before.
