Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2103 KP) rated Offworld (Dangerous Times, #1) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
The first manned mission to Mars returns after their two and a half year trip to discover that they are the only living being left on Earth. Where did everyone go? Can they survive long enough to bring them back? The book started a tad slowly, but it quickly grew into a book I just could not put down.

Peter Shephard (2821 KP) rated Terraforming Mars: Hellas & Elysium in Tabletop Games

Variation to the base game
The addition of two different maps for Mars is a welcome variation; the changes to the Milestones and Achievements is also a nice touch, as it changes the way people can score points from what they would usually aim for in the base game.
Although I do enjoy the different maps, and they are different enough, they dont really have a huge amount of "uniqueness" which the original one has. There are several cards which have been altered (Noctis City, for example) due to the location being on the other side of Mars. While this is an obvious side effect, it reduces the 'difficulty' of playing these cards hugely, so they feel less special.
It would have also been good to have had a small bundle of Hellas and Elysium cards included, even if it meant removing the original-location specific cards, but this opportunity was missed.
Out of all of the expansions, H&E adds the least, unless you have played the base map dozens and dozens of times.

Red Otter (340 KP) rated Terraforming Mars: Prelude in Tabletop Games
Jun 4, 2019
Prelude is my personal favourite of the Terraforming Mars expansions. It adds a few new cards ands corporations, but most importantly it adds a new starting bonus called preludes. You pick 2 from 4 dealt to you. These can be anything from drawing cards to free terraforming to additional starting resources and production and take the often slow beginning and ratchet it up a few notches. It allows for even more molding and kickstarting of your engine and makes the game flow smoother.

Erika (17788 KP) rated Total Recall (1990) in Movies

"Get your ass to Mars."
So, I didn't actually see this film until the remake was in the process of being made. The film is based upon 'We Can Remember it for You Wholesale' by Phillip K. Dick (which is excellent). Arnold Schwarzenegger isn't an award winning actor, but he was completely entertaining (as he is in most films). The weird, early 1990s SFX where a little bizarre, e.g., the face generator. Overall, it's entertaining and well paced, and I may just watch it again this afternoon.
