Toni Lynn Donald (2027 KP) rated Hidden Figures (2016) in Movies
Apr 19, 2020 (Updated Apr 19, 2020)
This was a great movie! It was about 3 women who worked for NASA and the struggles they faced being black women working there. It also was how Katherine Goble helps in the mission and finds flaws in the computers mathematics for the launch. The acting is great in this! I just love Katherine, she's my favorite of the 3 ladies. They also have many other great actors. Just love this movie!

Scientifically researched
It may seems boring or it may seem interesting. You have to pay attention to detail in the book as you read, as it puts into place the scenario that is unfolding. The movie explains some of it but does give the book justice as it would have been time consuming. Read the book first. Then you can ride along the senseless movie ride and actually know wha t is going on that the other movie goers do not.

Suswatibasu (1702 KP) rated The Idiot: A Novel in Books

A rather juvenile romp
As the title suggests, Elif Batuman's novel explores linguistics and Russian literature through the eyes of a young Harvard undergraduate, Selin. The character falls in love with an older, neurotic Hungarian mathematics student, and travels to his country to be near him. It is occasionally humorous, and describes a rite of passage - but no more than that. Unfortunately, at times it is rather banal and tedious.
While Batuman's writing is to be desired, the content fell short as the narrative varies between sharp and rambling. The naivety of Selin also appears slightly unbelievable, and would probably be better geared at a younger audience.
