It has some decent twists and a real purpose beyond simply scaring, but it stumbles frequently.

Emotional and relatable
I loved this book. I just wanted to keep reading! fasted time I have ever read a book. It was such an emotional ride reading this and really helps the reader understand what it could be like to live with or know someone with a mental illness. So beautifully done.

I love this book. Everything about it. I had my friend read it and he feels the same. It has something for everyone. It has a mystery element, a bit of a love story, and a good look at mental health and illness and its effects.

I’m a big fan of John Green so his latest release was highly anticipated. As someone with an anxiety disorder I found his portrayal of mental illness almost upsettingly exceptional. Some of the scenes were so relatable that I could see myself in Aza’s place. That being said, the overarching plot was somewhat lacking; I felt like the book wrapped up too quickly and the balance of the two plots, finding a lost rich man and living with mental illness, was lost.

Great read
John Green has a talent for making his characters feel like real people with very real problems. Aza's struggle with her mental health is heartbreaking and engaging, but the true magic of this book is how her struggles also impact those around her. Davis and Daisy are both well rounded characters who have realistic reactions to Aza's illness. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who would like an inside look at the spiraling invasive thoughts that can be caused by mental illness.

A modern psych institution horror story
Hold on to your hats, this isn't your typical haunted asylum story. The main characters, all teens, investigate the mental hospital where they've been institutionalized. The lines between what is real and what isn't are hard to see. The characters are diverse, three-dimensional and much more than their diagnoses. The writers care about representing mental illness accurately and respectfully, and donate to different mental health organizations.
