A very good comedy/horror I've been wanting to see for years. That poster always intrigued me! It has some pretty good SFX for the ghosts, for the time, the CGI is a bit basic for the reaper, and Ghostly wall images but it doesn't matter too much. With a good cast, including a great cameo from the Full Metal jacket drill sergeant almost doing the same character, along with Peter Jackson in charge you know it will be good.

"I read this alarmist right-wing book about cults in my school library, and at the time I was like, “Cults – this is amazing!” There was a section on satanic cults. They had a whole chapter about Venom and their Black Metal LP. It quoted the lyrics to “Sacrifice” about drinking a chalice of blood – and I remember thinking ‘this is so stupid and crazy’: I had to buy the album. It wasn’t as heavy and scary as I thought it would be."

An ok film but nothing like what I expected. This has more of a documentary feel to it than an action based war film. It has very little action in it and comes across as more of a drama, showing how the soliders try to cope with mental and physical pressures on them. Parts will remind you of Full metal jacket and it pays homage to Apocalypse now in one scene. So long as you aren't expecting any real action you should enjoy a well acted film.

I understand that free music is expected today from alot of people. I also understand the premium options necessary on music sharing apps. I love using spotify, and I have a variety of playlists from metal, to reggae, to comedy skits. I had a premium account for around 2 years before I hit financial hardships and has to cancel the subscription. Hopefully I can get it back soon and enjoy spotify in all its glory, rather than what they decide I should enjoy.

Reviewing the knot after one listen
I remember kerrang calling the unknown band the white wu tang clan, following by them or metal hammer destroying my mind worth the inclusion of eyelets on their cover CD. Seriously
Fast forward to the 42 year old now who sees past the theatrics but since verse 3 loves the band as the anthemic heavy grinders they are.
After first listen o think this CD is meandering cheap...but I'll be back lol

"Motörhead on the other hand are very much included in that heavy metal thing. My tribute to Lemmy would be that he was genuine, through and through. He never posed behind any manner of falsehood. He was exactly what he stood for: a rock & roller through and through.

I once heard it said that he caught one of his sons, he caught his youngster extolling the virtues of speed. And Lemmy said: ""Naw, don't get too much behind speed. What you want is weed!”"

"I’ve always joked about this. I don’t look forward to dying! I’m not afraid of dying and I’ve already died once before, but not living anymore and not being able to share life? I love my family, I love my band, I love where my life is right now and my career’s going great. I believe the metal community right now… the pendulum has swung in a positive way for all of us, not only the Big Four but the little 400 as well! (laughs)"

ANARCHY!
Every once and a while a film comes along that truly surprises you (I love it when that happens) and Lords of Chaos did that for me tonight. I was thinking going in was going to be a metal version of This is Spinal Tap maybe or an anti version of Bohemian Rhapsody, or definitely a film I would have to keep the volume turned down as not to annoy my wife with the extremely booming soundtrack, but none of those were true.

Instead we get a supposedly true, or mostly true, story of the 90s Norwegian Black Metal band, Mayhem, its members, its music, its tragedy. I knew there would be horror and it delivered on that for sure. There are some truly graphic scenes which are not for the squeamish or for those who get offended easily. Having said that, it is also about friendship, mental illness, bullying, fitting in, being different than the rest, anarchy, paganism, relationships and how true (or fake) are your convictions.

For those that enjoy the out of the ordinary, I would highly recommend.

"I prefer Metal Box, but this is a wonderful album and it just shows you where Lydon was culturally at that point in time. And he was obviously a bright fella. In interviews he was always talking about bands like Hawkwind and Can, so you always knew he was going to come from the left field, but the album didn't sound like anything else. I mean, Wobble's bass, Donut [Jim Walker]'s drumming, Keith Levene's guitar. I saw them play and Keith Levene had that metal guitar and he broke string after string during every song, Wobble was just sat down, and the whole thing just captured the bedlam but it just wasn't delivering what people were expecting. If you listen to 'Religion', it is just so cutting and stark and amazing; he channelled all of the anger that he had in a way that he couldn't with the Pistols because he wasn't being manipulated. He was cynical by this point because of the way he'd been treated and all the bullshit, and it all came out on this album. It was a game changer, this album."

Mel Gibson is back to form behind the camera in this War film of epic proportions. Standard is similar to Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket, but the second act outdoes Kubrick's with its intensity and full on violence portraying war. And boy once it starts it does not stop until the end.
I've never been a huge War movie fan but I must say I will quite happily revisit this film again at some point
