Suswatibasu (1701 KP) rated It in Books

It involves a group of old friends who are haunted by a nameless malice encountered in their childhoods. They are subsequently confronted again with this horror after the death of one of their friends as adults.
The main moral of this story is about facing demons in order to overcome fear. Looking forward to watching the new movie version of this book and hear the words "We all float down here" once again.
Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2171 KP) rated Commander Toad and the Big Black Hole (Commander Toad) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
This alternative take on black holes is a lot of fun, although I do feel the book started a bit slowly. Still, the pictures are great, the puns are present, and the ending provides a great moral that everyone can learn from – don’t sing with your mouth full!

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2171 KP) rated I Really Like Slop! (Elephant & Piggie, #24) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Yes, this is a variation on Green Eggs and Ham, but the execution is flawless. There are plenty of laughs, both from Gerald’s reaction and some of what Piggie says. Plus, the moral about it being okay if you don’t like something as long as you tried it is perfectly done and a natural part of the book.

Zuky the BookBum (15 KP) rated The Lottery and Other Stories in Books
Mar 15, 2018
Written and published just after WWII, this clearly sends out as message to all those involved in the Holocaust. Just because something is being done by the masses, and has become a sort of tradition, doesn't mean its moral and right. This message translates to today's times too. As another reviewer perfectly put it, "there is value in tradition but beware blind faith".
This in no way surprised me, it's not that I've seen spoilers for it, I just happened to get it very early on, but that doesn't take away the effect of the horrific ending.
Anna Steele (111 KP) rated Scythe (Arc of a Scythe #1) in Books
Jun 15, 2018
But Neal Shusterman deserves it
He has formed so many different worlds
Slightly different from our own
And wholely different from each other
He has brought me into Everlost
Shown me life after the Second Civil War
And now I have expirence a world
That has conquered mortality.
Two young people
Must learn how to kill people
The Sycthedom
Is the only political body standing
And it’s splitting
At its core
Massacrists
And compassionate killers
Must fight for the moral code
That will rule the only killers in the world.
This story is thrilling
And has left me not feeling so deadish.
