Sarah (7800 KP) rated My Name is Lucy Barton in Books
May 12, 2018
A moving life story
It's impressive that this book can fit virtually an entire life story into such a short book. And for the most part it's a really interesting story. Lucy is an endearing character although she is a little odd and strange at times. I feel like some of her actions don't make sense and I found myself getting very frustrated at how her mother treated her and how she reacted to it, like it didn't make any sense. But I do admit that this could just be part of the message of the story itself.
Overally it's a well written book with a lovely story, it's just a shame that not much really happens.

ALilLacey (2 KP) rated Princess Ben in Books
Mar 4, 2019
Princess Ben is not your average Princess. She isn't interested in learning how to behave like a queen and her less than skinny figure isn't putting her their either much to her Aunt's dismay. What do you do when your mother has been killed, your father is missing and you've become next in line for the throne. Misbehave of course. It's because of this attitude that she discovers a whole other side to the castle and to what she's capable of!
I really enjoyed the characters and the plot. This is actually the first princess book I've read. I only wish there had been more of the magical side of things in the story but I still loved it.

Excellent description
Gripping story from beginning to end
I got Kindle Unlimited for a couple of months and this is the third book I have read. Out of three this is the best by far. The story is told from the viewpoint of Heather and Aefre (The Crone).
Heather is a grieving mother who becomes obsessed with the circumstances of her sons death. Things are not quite as they seem.
Her research leads her to meet a number of different interesting characters and on a journey with a twist at the end.
Would definitely recommend reading this if you like something a bit darker from a book.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2355 KP) rated Once Upon the End (Half Upon a Time, #3) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
The trilogy comes to an end as Jack completes his training for his new master and sets out on a mysterious quest of his own. Meanwhile, May is living with her wicked step-mother and Phillip is wishing for more adventures. Will these three reunite to overthrow the Evil Queen? If you've enjoyed the first two, you'll love how the series ends. There's more humor and more twists and suspense. I always had a hard time putting it down. And if you haven't read the series? Don't start here, but read all three of them.

Lindsay (1760 KP) rated Secret Son, Convenient Wife in Books
Feb 15, 2018
This books is really different in terms of Romance. I wonder sometimes if the mother Germma was doing something wrong by not telling the father of the baby. She should have told him and let him decide. She was so afraid that see was in a Panic when he showed up at the hospital.
Tate was there for another reason. Germma was more afraid of what Tate would do than wonder if maybe if he was going to take her son away. You will be surpise to learn that all they did for their son and Tate family name along with some other surprises. If you enjoy Romance this is good book to read.

Zuky the BookBum (15 KP) rated Reverse Documentary in Books
Mar 15, 2018
This piece of work started off really beautifully. The in-depth imagery was both beautiful and haunting and we got a well built out character in Dino from right at the start. I liked how the documentary was written out so we could see how it was progressing, too.
Then things started to go wrong. After the whole story being in chronological order, it started to become jumbled towards the end, which threw me off completely and seemed to ruin the pace of the story.
I also didn't like the overall message of this... <spoiler>that a man could still be in love with the ghost of his cheating ex girlfriend over the living mother of his child.</spoiler>

Clare Parrott (294 KP) rated Blind Faith (Sin Brothers, #3) in Books
Feb 13, 2018
Wow...That was fabulous. Sexy Nate finally catches up with Audrey after she left him five years ago. When their eyes meet across a ballroom it starts a rollercoaster ride of murder, weird cults and sexy nights, Nate will do anything to protect Audrey and his brothers as the series continues in the search for Jory and the kill switch codes so they can all live free without the threat of the Comander and Audreys evil mother Dr Maddison.
Its a fantastic read with never a dull moment, its action packed and super hot. Only problem I do have is the next in the series isn't out for 11 months! How will I manage without the Grey/Dean brothers.

Nicole Hadley (380 KP) rated Tell Me a Mitzi in Books
Jun 18, 2018
Tell Me a Mitzi by Lore Segal has three stories within one about Mitzi and her younger brother and their daily tales. The tales are a little slices of life with whimsy, a touch of fantasy, and a lot of repetition. The stories were a little long, my mind wandered, and I suspect that would be true with some children too. Mitzi was clever, independent, sneaky, and demanding. She and her brother kept their poor mother hopping! Children will relate to her and enjoy her antics, even if the telling of those antics is less than inspiring.
I received this book from NetGalley via Dover Publications in exchange for an honest review.

Lou Grande (148 KP) rated Black Swan (2010) in Movies
Jun 28, 2018
I rewatched this movie for the first time since it came out in theaters. Once again, I was struck by the way Darren Aronofsky twists your mind around when telling a story. In a way, Black Swan reminded me of the Satoshi Kon film “Perfect Blue,” inasmuch as you, the audience is unsure of what is real, and how much is the result of our unstable protagonist, Nina.
In many ways, Nina’s story mirrors that of Swan Lake, except all the characters are parts of herself. Repressed by an overbearing mother and sexually frustrated, she embodies the white swan—and it’s only by releasing her sexual self, the black swan, that she can truly be free.

Leah (: (569 KP) rated The Valiant (Spy Girl book 4) in Books
Jul 12, 2018 (Updated Sep 14, 2019)
As the story continues you will get drawn deeper in the lives, lies and secrets.
This book contains quite a few flashbacks to Huntley’s childhood, particularly with her mother. It’s very nice to get to see these moments and they progress the story well. However as is the theme with a mystery they do manage to raise more questions than they answer.
I was not prepared for the ending and am still upset months later, still eagerly awaiting the release of The Dauntless in October.
Despite this I would still 100% recommend the book, however if you’ve got this far you are probably hooked like I am and don’t need a recommendation.
