"I saw this one again a few weeks ago in its incredible restored director’s cut. I have always admired Michael Cimino, and I loved Heaven’s Gate when it was released—with some quibbles. Now, I can’t believe I could have had any quibble about this masterpiece. It’s not just that it ages well; it wipes away any doubt: for some reason the passing of time (remember the only genuinely moving tagline ever? What one loves in life are things that fade.) reveals this film as the extraordinary, transcendent triumph I could not see then. And the way it finally reaches us through the echo of time only makes it more moving, heartbreaking, even."

Vibrant Spanish melodrama does a remarkable job of walking a tightrope, managing to be both outrageous and provocative, and restrained and moving, often at the same time. Written down in precis, the plot - or at least the cast of characters - sounds utterly bizarre, and the fact the film doesn't really have an unambiguously male main character probably signifies this will not be to all tastes.

However, the story is engrossing, genuinely moving, and slickly made with strong performances - to the extent that you overlook the plot's tendency towards implausible coincidences and improbable and arbitrary developments. At the very end things do become a bit unravelled, but not enough to spoil what is an impressive and satisfying film.

Don't know why the grief
I'm not sure why this movie got so much hate. I truly enjoyed it, and loved the expanded Force abilities introduced. Ben and Rey are much better this time out than before, and I like that they are moving away from the original cast and into newer characters.

Brilliantly sad
Wow, what a movie. Very disturbing but very moving and showing just how the Jews suffered at the hands of Nazi Germany. Polanski's storytelling is sublime as always and the film though a tough watch sometimes is one that will live you for a long time

I loved the movie, but the book was even better. More details, they also explain things better in the book. ☺

This is a sweet little book, poignant and moving. Inspired by the Beatles song Eleanor Rigby we are given a further glimpse into the realms of loneliness and how it exists on our doorsteps. Father McKenzie the main protagonist shows us how profoundly lives can be touched by a simple listening ear.
