Nice fresh movie
Contains spoilers, click to show
Shang Chi is a breath of fresh air in MCU films. It also shows its establishment of new set of heroes injucting into MCU after Avengers : End Game. There's Eternals slated to release in couple of months which again has new super heroes, and post credits suggest that Shang chi is linked to Doctor Strange, so you will be finding hints in upcoming spiderman and Dr strange.
Simu Liu has acted smoothly in his role and movie really impressed me in most parts.
Looking forward for other flicks down the line

Who is watching who?
A decent, intelligent thriller that feels like an old classic. Slight Hitchcock vibes in places. A woman moves with her husband to Romania and is often alone throughout the day and not knowing the language feels isolated. While people watching from the her window she notices a figure watching her.
A very nice looking film, great photography. It's a slow burn and feels like a longer film but makes the every day things feel tense when you feel you are being watched. Well worth checking out.

Welcome home Sidney
Good to see this get good reviews from the critics and you can see why. A great entry in the series while being new also pays homage to the original. The have the usual humour and Horror film commentary that has featured before. Plenty of nods to the other films and to Wes Craven, along with some nice touches. It will keep you guessing until the mask comes off. If you love the original you'll definitely enjoy this.

Ok for Whodunit fans
I love Murder Mysteries and a fan of Agatha Christie stories. I've not seen a film or Tv adaptation of this cover of the "Hallowe'en Party" story. It's different with the Ghost and spiritual angle on proceedings. A nice setting in a creepy house in Venice. The summing up seemed to come rather abruptly and a couple of things not really that well explained as to how they were worked out. There's not much for viewers to go by to work it out. One for Whodunit fans mainly.

Things I liked about Deep Blue Sea 3:
- The good characters are actually surprisingly likable
- It's fishing village setting is a nice change
- That bit where a guy yeets himself off a huge boat straight into the mouth of a shark

Things I didn't like about Deep Blue Sea 3:
- The lack of original LL Cool J songs
- Pretty much everything else.

At least this one has the courtesy to not be a shit rip off of the first one like Deep Blue Sea 2, but it's still a film that would be a chore to sit through more than once.

A group of hens travel to a remote, exclusive Scottish island to celebrate in luxury with the bride to be. Some of the women know one another, some don’t, and all of them have secrets.

So when the chef is murdered and one of the hens goes missing presumed kidnapped, it’s a race against time to save her. And then the secrets start to come out…

This was fast paced and great fun. None of the characters were particularly nice, but I do love to hate characters in my books!

Read with relish on The Pigeonhole!

Holy fluff balls! This is hot, fun.....did I say hot?

I definitely have a soft spot for these well written, relatable characters. Having the NFL background is a definite selling point because who doesn't like a fit bloke playing a contact sport?

The Star is a yummy read that's perfect for the hot summer days, lazing in the sun and having a nice, tall drink to hand....... quench your thirst and cool you down from this cheeky story!

I recommend this as an adult read, for obvious reasons (read the blurb beforehand and you'll understand!)

David McK (3755 KP) rated Tomb Raider: the Legend of Lara Croft Season 2 in TV

Tomb Raider: the Legend of Lara Croft Season 2
Tomb Raider: the Legend of Lara Croft Season 2
2025 |
Season 2 of Netflix's adaptation of the Tomb Raider games or, more specifically, that takes inspiration from the more recent early noughties/2010s incarnation of the character rather than from the 'classic' 90s era.

This time around, Lara and her crew find themselves caught up and facing down what amounts to an eco-terrorist; a villain who wants to remake the world to restore what they see as the out-of-whack balance between mankind and nature (think Poison Ivy from Batman).

Animation may be nice, but I've always found it's more enjoyable actually playing these games than watching ...

Great story with engrossing characters
I loved reading this one! A great blend of action, intrigue and romance complete with a cast of likable characters. Each one with their story to tell and it’s told well. For some background information it would help to read up on the subject of the Night Witches and their exploits during World War II (which is a fascinating subject on its’ own)

Of all the stories to read, Nina’s naturally, is the most interesting. She’s a wild child, does her own thing and doesn’t care about norms, conventions, and rules. She does her own thing but joins up with her squad not because of the love of her land and country but because she loves to fly. It’s her passion and it shows. I love reading about Nina because of her free spirited attitude and her drive. It’s what keeps her going.

The plot is free flowing and the chapters goes back and forth time-wise, and changes perspective depending on the character. Besides Nina, Jordan’s point of view is also interesting. She’s also got an independent streak in her and it’s nice to see her go on her own path based on her decisions. It’s unheard of back then in the day (we’re talking about 1950’s here) so it’s nice to read.

The writing is excellent and it grabs your attention from page one. I rather wish there was a small glossary to see what Nina says in Russian (although I’m sure it’s rather colorful language) but other than that small bit, the characters are engaging, and it’s nice how they all come together in the last third of the book.

The Author’s Note is also good for explaining what she’s done historical speaking wise. If you are stickler for history perhaps this isn’t for you - it’s more character and story driven. Still an engrossing read and greatly recommended!
