"I was older - a college student - when I read the Gunter Grass novel The Tin Drum. The 19-century novel was the model of the form, for me; here was 19th-century storytelling about 20th-century social behavior, sexuality, and politics."

"A novel about childhood friends who are reunited amid a murder investigation in the South. Franklin is a superb storyteller and this immersion into the dark recesses of the South is memorable. The novel has made a deep impression on me."

1995 TV adaptation of the Bernard Cornwell novel of the same name, although this one - in particular - seems to have nothing in common with that novel except the name and, perhaps, the fact that it involves Aztec gold in Spain!

This novel was okay for me. It was very slow for most of the novel and nothing much happens. There are a lot of characters, some of them we don't really get names for. There are changes in speakers who are too alike, so we don't know which story we are following in that moment. I enjoyed some of the descriptions of the novel but it isn't one much for me.

4.75/5 to be precise! Author Meg Waite Clayton’s newest novel is a biographical, historical, women’s fiction novel about Geertruida Wijsmuller, aka “Tante Truus” who was instrumental in getting thousands of children out of Nazi Germany via the Kindertansport. This powerful and important novel was just released and I hope you’ll read my #bookreview of it on my blog now. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2019/09/13/saving-a-whole-world/

Greer Macallister’s third historical fiction novel is once again one that includes elements of a thriller and those of an action novel, all while including the psychological aspects of the mentally ill and their treatment during the latter part of the 19th century. Take a look at what I thought of this novel in my newest #bookreview on my blog here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2019/03/15/pulling-a-nellie-bly/

Interesting concept. More drugs and sex than I wanted in a YA novel. Engaging writing

Not flawless, but still a great little horror novel. Good characters and a satisfying finish.
