"Possible the most brutally, hilariously accurate portrait of post colonial Jamaica I’ve ever read. And it’s a novel about the Philippines."

Novel within a novel with great twists
Once again, literary maestro Margaret Atwood has produced another creative mega-feat. Her novel in a novel reminds me of her other work Hagseed, also exploring the theme of revenge.

However, there is very little to laugh about in this story in which narrator Iris, at the end of her life, describes the mysterious circumstances that her sister, husband and lover all died in. Younger sibling Laura is said to have been killed after her car edged off a cliff, all the while leaving the world with a controversial novel that describes a racy affair.

Iris reveals the truth about the incidents from her perspective, which means we always see Laura as child-like and naive, while her husband Richard and his sister Winifred are portrayed as cardboard villains. With that in mind, Atwood's characters are realistic because they are all just points of view from one person. Great twists in this book.

This was a great novel. I really enjoyed the characters and I found that I could relate to many of them. For those of you who are worried that it's going to be "Hunger Games," it's not. It's the same genre but it is definitely different.

I am a little upset that it took me this long to read this novel. I read too many reviews stating that it was Hunger Games 2.0 but it isn't. I'm a fan of dystopian lit. This is definitely dyshtopian. It will have the same feel as Hunger Games but it is different.

I really liked this book. It was fast paced, well written for a young adult novel, and truly entertaining. I wish I had more time over the Christmas holiday to read more. This is easily a novel I could have finished within a day where I didn't have familial obligations.

If you're hesitant to read this novel, I suggest that you pick it up.

Addictive sequel to Cain's "Heartsick" -- featuring serial killer Gretchen Lowell, detective Archie Sheridan, and reporter Susan Ward. Picks up shortly after the end of the first novel, with the intersection of a story Ward is pursuing and the ongoing twisted relationship of Archie and Gretchen. As with the first novel, hard to put down...

This novel was amazing. It made me really think about social issues. I loved the emotions that played over the pages, tempting the reader into wanting more. I had to read this for a class, but I am very glad that the professor assigned it. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Great novel.

I like the art work in this graphic novel, it is quirky and reminiscent of Sergio Aragones and other cartoonists from the late 70s and early 80s. The colours are vibrant, and this interpretation flows well, obviously it is shorter than the text novel, but I feel that they have done a good job.
