Miss Frost Cracks a Caper( Jayne Frost 4)
By Kristen Painter
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Jayne Frost is a lot of things. Winter elf, Jack Frost's daughter, Santa Claus's niece, heir to the Winter Throne and now...private investigator. Sort of.
When Lark Bramble, an old frenemy, shows up in Nocturne Falls, Jayne finds herself reliving the painful past and trying to make responsible decisions that won’t mess up her future. But being an adult proves harder than she thought.
Finally at peace with where things stand between her and Lark, Jayne thinks everything’s cool until a chilling event at the Black and Orange Ball shatters that peace and puts Jayne at odds with the powers that be. She knows she’s on thin ice, but she’s determined to crack the caper.
Can Jayne find a way to right the wrongs she might have caused or will she forever bear the guilt of allowing herself to be snowed again?
I absolutely love this author and this quirky fun series it always makes me smile. I love the well know characters used and the spooky creatures mixed with the Christmas ones. The story is always so much fun. Absolutely recommend especially to come out of a reading slump or some light relief.

Like, a lot.
I was still completely unaware, however, that it would include Pierce Brosnan's Dr Fate nor Hawkman not Atom Smasher nor Cyclone (all of which, for me, were the first time I had seen any of them on the big screen).
It also fits into the - current - DCEU - with Black Adam getting his powers from the same council of Wizards as Shazam (and using the same word), alongside cameos by Viola Davis' version of Amanda Waller and - in possibly the worst kept secret - a certain superhero during the end credits (the actor for who was told he would be returning to that role, then told not).
Anyway, this sees The Rock's Black Adam released from his tomb 5 centuries after being imprisoned within it, to modern-day Kahndaq which is now occupied by foreign invaders with some very advanced weaponry. The plot is then your usual run-of-the-mill softening of Adam's hard edges, teaming up with his supposed enemies to fight his real enemies, lots of destruction and a few general quips thrown in ...
The result? Somewhat messy; not as good (or surreal) as, say, Aquaman or Wonder Woman. Maybe a B+.

ClareR (6054 KP) rated The Change in Books
Jan 13, 2025
The main characters in The Change, Nessa, Harriet and Jo, all start to manifest unusual powers as they hit perimenopause. Harriet grows plants, particularly useful ones; Jo becomes extremely strong; Nessa sees the dead.
These women are set to put the backs up of the rich and powerful men of Mattauk, and seek revenge on behalf of the ghosts of the dead women who suffered at their hands.
The Change has some seriously feminist vibes - these women are fed up of being talked down to and objectified and it seems nature is out to give them a helping hand. I have to admit to being more than a little jealous!
I was utterly hooked, and really didn’t want to put this book down - I knew something even more exciting/ traumatising/ mind blowing was just over the next page!
Part of me would love a follow up to this, but I also rather like the fact that I’m left wondering what on earth could happen next!

David McK (3666 KP) rated Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025) (2025) in Movies
Aug 26, 2025 (Updated Aug 26, 2025)
It also has Pedro Pascal in the lead role as Mr Fantastic alongside Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (and with Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn rounding out the family as The Thing and Johnny Storm respectively), with the film starting with the Fantastic Four already in possession of their powers; already established as mainstream (and popular) superheroes.
And about to face the threat of Galactus, the Destroyer of Worlds, just as Sue is about to give birth to her first child,
I must admit, I did struggle a bit with the casting of Pedro Pascal as Mr Fantastic - to me, he will always by Djinn Djarijn, the Mandalorian of the Disney+ series of the same name.
I also felt the resolution to be a bit on the weak side!
Still, it's nice to see something different in the MCU once in a while.
