InfernalNinja (49 KP) rated Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) in Movies

Return of the most of the Raimi villains! (3 more)
Willem Dafoe steals every scene he's in, as usual!
Interesting story
Fixes alot of the problems I had with Tom Holland's Spider Man
They did it! Finally made 3 awesome consecutive Spider Man movies!
Contains spoilers, click to show
Was worried this movie's hype train would be it's demise. Wrong. They somehow managed to fix all 3 Spider Man franchises in one movie . I was super excited to see the return of Tobey and Andrew, although I do wish they would've been able to keep it a surprise. Unfortunately, that has proven time and time again to be very difficult to do in this day and age. I don't hold that against them. It was still a very awesome aspect of the movie. Most of the Raimi villains' actors seemed to slip right back into character, even after all these years. It was quite a ride from start to finish. While the ending was a bit expected, I can't imagine any other ending working, and I didn't see all aspects of it coming 100%. Do yourself a favor and see this movie!

ClareR (5784 KP) rated Yinka, Where Is Your Huzband? in Books
Dec 17, 2022
I’m not quite sure what I was expecting from Yinka, but I really enjoyed reading about her quest (or rather, her family’s quest) for a husband. And it’s probably because it’s not just about that. As Yinka’s family become more pushy about her lack of a life partner, she becomes more unsure about the direction her life is taking. Probably triggered by her losing her boyfriend and then her job, and feeling the need to keep that last piece of news from her family, causes her untold problems.
I loved all the Nigerian culture, and I feel as though I’ve learnt a lot.
The relationship between Yinka and her friends was a bit puzzling at times, and she seemed to struggle to relate to them - and I think that may have been because she was struggling with her mental health, as well as the cultural expectations. Hence Yinka’s pressing need to find a date for her friends wedding (which sounds spectacular, by the way!).
I loved how Yinka grew up as a person as this book went on, and how the ending showed that this was a long term process.
Recommended!

ClareR (5784 KP) rated The Shadow Cabinet in Books

Firstly, I need to say how much I loved this.
Secondly, HMRC is a mess! The High Priestess is dead and her successor isn’t who anyone thinks she is, Theo’s powers seem to be dwindling, Leonie’s brother has disappeared and she needs to rescue him from Public enemy #1, and Elle’s marital problems take a rather drastic turn. Oh, and there are rather a lot of Witch-finders - and they are most definitely NOT good news. These men are Incels on steroids.
Everyone gets a say, with even a non-witch Prime Minister and his cronies getting a look in, and we learn about Luke’s backstory.
There’s a lot packed in to this story, but I didn’t feel as though any of it was rushed. Leonie’s trip to a long lost coven was fascinating and a bit traumatic (again, there’s a fair bit of trauma in this!)
But the main character in this (and I’m not going to say who it is!) is the real tour de force.
And the ending!!!!
I WILL be reading the third book, absolutely no question! I will be needing to find out how they will all deal with the small Lucifer problem…

Marian Keyes never fails to disappoint me with her books, and this one is no exception.
Her humour is injected beautifully into this book, whilst still dealing with issues of infidelity, an eating disorder, financial problems and imperfect marriages. All of the issues in the book are dealt with so delicately while also ensuring that the issues should not be taken lightly by the reader.
Marian Keyes always makes sure that her humour is in the book, and there are some ridiculous bits that made me laugh out loud while reading but also some serious parts that reminded you about life and the things other people have to deal with.
I loved the story being about three different marriages in one family as well as their kids and loved that it was from the point of view of seven characters - Jessie, Johnny, Ed, Cara, Liam, Nell and Ferdia. I felt that by the end everyone’s stories were tied up quite nicely… except for Nell and Ferdia! I had hopes that things would work out for them, but I doubt we’ll ever find out unfortunately!
Another amazing Marian Keyes that has been added to my growing collection of her work.

Merissa (12374 KP) rated Fumbled Hearts (Tennessee U #2) in Books
Jul 5, 2023
FUMBLED HEARTS is the second book in the Tennessee U series, but the first one I have read. This in no way impacted my enjoyment of this book, although I now really want to read book one!
Maddox and Ethan are both struggling for different reasons. Enough information is given at the beginning that you understand the problem without it being an info dump. The complexities of the problems are gradually revealed over time, showing how both of them are desperate to succeed for whatever reason.
I thought the two of them were incredibly sweet together, as well as being hot! Maddox's nail varnish fetish made me laugh, I loved how it was incorporated into the ending. The epilogue was absolutely perfect, showing their stories and also how Maddox is dealing with what he went through. Heartbreaking and joyful at the same time.
A great read that I thoroughly enjoyed and have no hesitation in recommending!

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2275 KP) rated Murder at the Mushroom Festival in Books
Oct 8, 2022
Murder is Mushrooming
The community of Redwood Cove is getting ready for the annual mushroom festival. It includes a mushroom hunting contest that is bring out the worst in some of the residence. Kelly Jackson witnesses several fights, including between the people attending a mushroom class she is hosting at her bed and breakfast. However, she is still surprised when a dead body is found. As she and the Silver Sentinels, a group that works to solve problems in the community, start to investigate, they find motives beyond the mushroom festival. Can they figure out what is happening?
It was nice to get to reconnect with Kelly and her friends. They make a great group of characters, and I love seeing their relationships grow in this book. It was also interesting to watch the suspects evolve as the book progressed. The book managed to surprise me as to who the victim was going to be, something that doesn’t often happen. It kept me guessing on the killer until Kelly figured it out, too. If you are looking for a light cozy, this is the book for you.
