I love everything Adam Silvera comes up with and every time it's soul destroying, He so carefully creates his characters and you feel their emotions and heartache and damn does he know how to make you feel. As soon as I read the summary I knew that this was the book for me, it had everything I love in fiction and it didn't disappoint. It's raw and honest from the first age to the last page and even though you find out about the history and present simultaneously you're still constantly uncovering things you didn't expect. He also handles the topic of OCD very well, it's not romanticized and it's portrayed as very very real.

"Most people know Serge Gainsbourg's Histoire de Melody Nelson album, but what's interesting is that in the early '90s, he actually went into a dark, weird phase that French people don't really like. They consider his music from that time weak. But for me, it's the best. It's porn, it's queer, it's rap before that was a thing in France. It's just him mumbling obscene things on drum-and-guitar heavy production, really raw and tough. At the same time, it's poetic. The contrast is interesting: it's beautiful but dirty. On this album, Gainsbourg is hiding behind nothing. You get everything: the obsessions, the lust, the weaknesses, the scars. You see everything ugly and everything beautiful."

"Jesca Hoop is a friend of mine. And she said there's this girl in town, you've got to see her band: "They're amazing and I want to see if they are the real deal." So I say okay, and we went down to the movie lounge, and we were both absolutely knocked out. We hung around afterwards and then got the band signed. Listen to 'Low Low Low' and that will tell you exactly what I love about them. They are raw and they are real and she sings from her heart, and she has a big troubled heart. She plays guitar amazingly and she sings with real guts and they're just a fantastic band."

If you want a book that will take you on a true roller coaster ride of delirious emotions, The Place Between Breaths if for you. Told in a non-linear manner and delves into the raw complexity, horror, and grief surrounding Schizophrenia. Although all the jumping around might be off-putting to some readers, I found it intriguing - as if I were exploring the world the way a fractured mind would and I loved that, at times, I was confused. I know that's strange to say, but I enjoyed it's ambiguous tone riddled with dream and longing.

I would recommend 100%
