Have you ever read a book that was so good that once you realized how close to the end you were coming, you deliberately started dragging the pages out? Like, seriously reading one page per minute? That's how I feel right now with this Gem of a book that I purchased (yes, purchased) from the library! Pick this book up if you can! You won't regret it! #SmashHonors #IPromise!

So I've basically had this book out of the library for about a year now and I've tried and tried. I've read 100 pages but I just can't push myself any further.
I don't know if it's the writing or the subject but it just doesn't keep my interest.
Maybe I'll try again in the future but other books are calling me...back to the library you go.

Apocalypse Now (1979)
Apocalypse Now (1979)
1979 | Action, Drama, War

"Ever since I read the Heart of Darkness for the first time — I really loved that book and loved the sort of question at the heart of that book, which is, “What is the true nature of the human species?” So Apocalypse Now is just an incredible adaptation of that concept and a movie that I never get tired of watching. There are so many interesting things in it."

4.75/5 to be precise! Author Meg Waite Clayton’s newest novel is a biographical, historical, women’s fiction novel about Geertruida Wijsmuller, aka “Tante Truus” who was instrumental in getting thousands of children out of Nazi Germany via the Kindertansport. This powerful and important novel was just released and I hope you’ll read my #bookreview of it on my blog now. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2019/09/13/saving-a-whole-world/

I don’t often read contemporary fiction, but when I do, I need the book to give me something I can think about. In Mary Fleming’s new book, she certainly does give us just that (and please don’t judge this book by its cover). See what I thought of it in my latest #bookreview on my blog now. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2019/10/25/a-path-to-changing-gears/

lots of good humour and insight (0 more)
A really good read and full of laughs. It details the highs and lows of a fan more famous now for saying 'Unbelievable Jeff' than being a footballer. Its hard to believe that he had such a varied career both in playing and managing. From the highs of the Navy to managing Stoke, this book contains a plethora of information for all readers to enjoy :)

First, let me start by saying that this type of book is not my usual fare.

However, when it was passed on to me by a family friend (who was otherwise going to throw it out), I thought - as I knew who [author:James Patterson|3780] was, and that he was very successful - that I would give it a try anyway.

Now that I've read it, I have to say that (truth be told) it didn't really do a lot for me: yes, it was easy enough reading, but never really (IMO) 'grabbed hold' of me. I also have to say the I felt the denouement seemed very rushed; very slap-dash and left a lot to be desired.

Your mileage, of course, may vary!

I remember reading this as a teenager and it was my first dip into the horror genre and from then until now, I was hooked. There are not many books that give me the creeps but I remember this book as it resulted in me having a fear of rats which continues to this day! No other book has had such a lasting impression on me and I won't ever read it again as I don't want to affect the memories I have of this book being fantastic and the beginnings of my love for horror.

To really appreciate I believe this must be read or reread, as an adult. Not to or for a child, but to yourself. The descriptions of the garden are beautiful, the change in the children can be felt as well as seen. It really is quite remarkable and I'm sad I never knew how good it really was until now.
If I had a criticism it would be that I would have preferred a fraction longer at the end to really complete the story, even if just a page or two more.
A classic to be owned.
