I am a fan of the cover because the bone skull and the little Sailor Moon symbol at the top. Also the intro or dedication to the gremlin girls was inspiring and I hope it encourages all the young girly readers to continue breaking the glass ceilings with bricks or whatevs else they can get their hands on. There are trigger warnings at the beginning of the book warning the reader about the content in her reading which included child abuse and assault.

This read is a grimm retelling story and is very dark and magical. The author, Margaret Owen, based this book on the "The Goose Girl" which I have never heard of or read. This retelling is also a series so there is another book after this one which is the first of the series. I'd also categorize this retelling as LGBTQ+ which I love. I have no idea what Goose Girl is about but the idea of there being a more woke version is AMAZING to me <3<3<3 Bring on the next book please!

Retelling of LIttle Red Riding Hood in a post-apocalyptic wasteland
‏I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book so I could give an honest review.

The Girl in Red by Christina Henry is a retelling of the classic story Little Red Riding Hood. In this version, Red is living in a post-apocalyptic wasteland caused by a highly contagious disease. Everyone Red knows has died but she hopes her grandmother will still be alive since her house is isolated. Most survivors have been relocated to quarantine camps but Red would rather go to her grandmother's house.

It is told using alternating timelines that reveal the beginning and the spread of the disease and Red's struggle to get to her grandmother's house in present day.

The book took some time for me to get into the story but it has a nice pace to it. You quickly realize it is not a mystery or suspenseful book. It is a believable retelling of the perennial classic Little Red Riding Hood so there will not be any twists and turns but involves a well-written and imaginative retelling.

The Girl in Red is one of the many retellings Christina Henry has written. Others involve the classic works of Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and the Little Mermaid.

The Girl in Red was a 2019 Goodreads Choice Award Nominee for Horror.

An Hilarious take on the Prince and the Pauper played to great effect by Eddie Murphy as the poor man suddenly thrust into the money markets of Pork bellies and frozen orange juice, it's showing it's age badly now, but still very funny and a good retelling of the Twain classic.

A retelling of Robinson Crusoe for the modern Era that is well acted and executed.
The struggle is very real given that a deserted island has been substituted for Mars and Matt Damon is the Math genius/astronaut that finds ingenious ways to make food until he can be rescued!

"Mabel and Jack are a homesteading couple in the unforgiving Alaskan wilderness whose bitter lives change the moment they encounter Faina, the primitive child they may or may not have conjured out of fresh snow and longing. An incredibly moving retelling of a Russian fairly tale. Absolutely haunting from page one."

A good retelling of Bonnie and Clyde from the perspective of two former Texas rangers, Costner and Harrelson make a great team and the banter between them is excellent, this version glorifies the good guys and shows how great detective work from two old pro's couldn't be overlooked, gripping and intelligent stuff.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I'm a sucker for a good fairy tale retelling and this one is top-notch!

Kat and Steffan's are great characters and the way they team up to find out what's going on is brilliant!
