Awix (3310 KP) rated A Hill in Korea (Hell in Korea) (1956) in Movies
Feb 8, 2019
Gritty, old-school British war film, where keeping a stiff upper lip is at least as important as seeing off the enemy. During the Korean War, a patrol runs into trouble and must take shelter on a hill-top with no way down; the enemy close in. Sort of a bit like Zulu, I suppose, it certainly has the same sort of cast (many well-known faces on the way up) and feeling of sweaty heroism in extremis.
Good performances and well-staged, authentic-feeling action; Portugal stands in for Korea, not especially convincingly. Most likely a bit problematic by modern standards: cast consists entirely of white dudes, one of whom is unconvincingly made up to be the patrol's Korean guide. But it was the 1950s, after all.

Jessica Lupton (3 KP) rated Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age in Video Games
Feb 28, 2019
For instance you can control all 4 characters in your party or decide to have 3 on automatic commands. Characters can either stay I a line or can be moved when it's their turn around the battle circle ,giving a great choice that can be played traditionally in a battle line of move players around the battle arena , giving a more engaged feeling with the fighting.
Overall story 8/10
Old school Jrpg feel 10/10
Battle /fighting mechanics 7/10(took me 40 hrs in game before i NEEDED to upgrade a character before a boss battle. However there is a hard mode to compensate which you are asked at the start of the game)

Alex Trybus (79 KP) rated Divide by Ed Sheeran in Music
Jan 24, 2018
Overall a very good album..
I have been a fan of Ed Sheeran since I was in high school (before he reached his current popularity). I saw him live at a very small venue in Pittsburgh, way before he was used to singing in huge arenas all around the world. His songs have always been very sweet and heartfelt, and I am glad that this new album did not stray from that despite his new popularity. I also enjoy some of the hip hop aspects of the album, especially like Eraser and New Man. Those two songs are definitely some of his strongest off of the album. I definitely recommend this album to people who have either already loved Ed Sheeran, or want to start!

Kyera (8 KP) rated Scarlett Epstein Hates It Here in Books
Feb 1, 2018
I would like to preface this by saying I only read a SNEAK PEEK, not the full book.
Scarlet was suggested to me as a cross between Veronica Mars (who I love) and Daria (who I know next to nothing about). Scarlet writes and reads fanfic about her favourite television show, Lycanthrope High. It's one of those books where you connect with the main character because they get you. The tv show, movie, book comic or video game character that you fall in love with feels like a real person - and Scarlet understands that. Her straight-laced best friend, Avery, not so much. It's a unique take on the high school experience with an awkward protagonist you want to know more about. I suggest you check it out.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2263 KP) rated End Me a Tenor (Glee Club, #2) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
Paige is thrilled when she lands the job of soprano soloist in a production of The Messiah along side world famous tenor David Richard. But at their first rehearsal together, he takes a sip of his water and dies. Meanwhile, she has to get her high school show choir into shape, including a new song, in just a few days or lose her day job.
There's lots going on here, and I did feel the mystery suffered a bit as a result. On the other hand, Paige is such a great character I couldn't help but root for her even when the show choir sub-plot was taking center stage.

Erika (17789 KP) rated Sex Drive (2008) in Movies
Feb 25, 2018
This movie is incredibly crude, but completely hilarious. It's got some of the funniest lines I've ever laughed at loud and obnoxiously in theaters. I always know if it's a good comedy if there are lines I still laugh at years later (ten in this case, it makes me feel old af). The main character, pretends to be this buff, muscle car owning dude, and chats up chicks online. Of course, the car belongs to his brother, James Marsden's character. One of the chicks tells the main character that she's willing to 'go all the way' (this is a high school age movie), if he makes this road trip from his home to somewhere in TN or KY. Various hijinks ensue, and rando actors show up throughout. Like Seth Green randomly being Amish.

Going Places by Kathryn Beria
Four Stars
This story is about a teenage boy trying to find himself. Hudson was going places according to his teacher. When life throws off Hudson balance he seems to stop wanting to go places. School became unnecessary and helping others a priority. I’m not a boy so I don’t completely understand what he was going through. But I did understand not knowing what your future would hold and not finding confidence within yourself. His relationship with Fritzy was hilarious and true. She did give him sweet words or half truths. I didn’t like Love all that much. Overall the author did good and I was excited to be in the mind of a more realistic teenage boy on the journey of maturity.

Caffeinated Fae (464 KP) rated The Book Thief in Books
Jul 10, 2018
This novel was recommended to me by an old high school friend. This is definitely not my typical book. I like the fast paced suspense/romance and I tend to stick with those novels. I'm glad that I picked up this novel.
This novel was very interesting. It's a collection of short stories narrated by death. It follow the life of a young German girl during the time of world war 2. It's told in a different way by having "Death" as the narrator.
This was a pretty quick read. It makes you think too. It's one of those novels that will make you think about the depravity of human beings and give you some hope along side of it.
All in all, it was a good novel that deals with World War II.

Before we get into this review I just wanted to let you guys know that I know my posting has been all over the place at the moment, but bear with me, just trying to crack this final year stuff so I apologise in advance and until I finish uni there's going to be no sort of posting schedule so just bear with me and we'll get through this together!
Harry Potter.....the love of my life.
I have to say re-reading the series is bringing back all sorts of memories from when I first read it in secondary school, hiding behind library shelves and reading it every single moment I got.

Leah (: (569 KP) rated Talented (Talented Saga, #1) in Books
Jul 9, 2018
I first read this book and most of the series years ago before it became popular. Before long I was hooked and had binge read all the available books!!
The book follows Talia as she graduates school and lands her dream job. Throughout the story you learn more about the Talented and the world they live in, from Talia’s perspective.
I found Talia to be a very relatable character, particularly as she has a temper which often gets her in trouble. It was also very easy to empathise with Talia and the struggles she faced in the book.
The book is part of a series so there are still many unanswered questions by the end.
I would definitely recommend this book series especially if you like dystopian books.
