David McK (3372 KP) rated The Orville: New Horizons in TV

Season 3 (of, at the moment, 3) of Seth McFarlane's currently-more-Star-Trekky-than-Star-Trek show, with pretty much every episode this season hitting it out of the park.
While still present, the sometimes infantile humour of season 2 (and, in particular, season 1) has been dialled back quite a bit, while the SFX budget has seemingly inversely increased (although, obviously, still not up to motion picture levels!).
As with all good sci-fi, the season also takes in topical considerations through a sci-fi lens: top of my head, I can think of suicide, identity, gender politics, free will ...

Matthew Krueger (10051 KP) rated Underwater (2020) in Movies

Below The Surface
Underwater- is a highly entertaining sci-fi horror movie. Mixing sci-fi with horror with a underwater creature. The cast was really good, i liked Kristen Stewart, T.J. Miller, Vincent Cassel and John Gallagher Jr. The downfall was Jessica Henwick she was really annoying. He charcter was really annoying and wouldnt shut up. The plot/story was intresting, the sci-fi was good and the horror was just there/not really though.
The plot: Disaster strikes more than six miles below the ocean surface when water crashes through the walls of a drilling station. Led by their captain, the survivors realize that their only hope is to walk across the sea floor to reach the main part of the facility. But they soon find themselves in a fight for their lives when they come under attack from mysterious and deadly creatures that no one has ever seen.
Like i said a good movie.

Matthew Krueger (10051 KP) rated The War of the Worlds (1953) in Movies
Oct 3, 2019 (Updated Oct 3, 2019)
Original Sci-Fi Classic
The War of the Worlds- is a classic, but just not just a classic, a sci-fi classic, that came out in the early 1950's. With this movie, the thing from anethor world and the day the earth stood still that all came out around the same time. The early 1950's was on fire with sci-fi movies.
The Plot- Scientist Clayton Forrester (Gene Barry) and Sylvia Van Buren (Ann Robinson) are the first to arrive at the site of a meteorite crash. Soon after, an alien war machine emerges and begins killing at random. The Marines are called in, but they're no match for the aliens' force field. Forrester and Van Buren, however, are able to wound one of the creatures and procure a sample of its blood. They take it to Los Angeles where they hope, through testing, to be able to discover the aliens' weakness.
This film and the other that i did mention are a must watch.
