A sci-fi treat!
Marvel has the talent to make better sequels, Guardians of the Galaxy vol 1. Was a great movie but vol 2. Is even better. Although there were some holes in the plot but only tad ones that need to filled and hopefully in vol 3 we will get that. New characters that need more attention as they seem to be a big part of this universe like Stallones character. But all in all I was pleased and entertained and I could watch it over and over.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)

Great sequel to a modern classic!
The 2nd Jurassic Park film sometimes gets a bad wrap or lost among the several sequels which have followed, but this movie was actually quite good as well.

Just the right mix of returning and new characters for more dinos to scare, chase and feast upon. Several of the action sequences keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you intrigued the whole way through.

Some say the ending was over-the-top, but I loved every minute of it. Now would be the time to rewatch.

Shrek-tastic fun
Found this gem whilst browsing online, I was surprised I hadn't heard of it being a fan of the franchise so was eager to give it a look.
based on the 2001 DreamWorks Animation film Shrek and featuring elements of sequels Shrek 2, Shrek Forever After and William Steig's 1990 book Shrek! This is a brilliant performance by both cast, crew and musicians with wonderful set colours & designs, really catchy musical numbers classic lines & some subtle adult jokes.

The runtime is a little over 2 hours which is more that enough to enjoy.

Lethal Weapon (1987)
Lethal Weapon (1987)
1987 | Action, Drama
Yes it's showing it's age but this is still up there with Die Hard as one of the best action movies of the 80's. The original is the best in the series, darker and more violent than the (weaker but still fun) more comedic sequels. The plot is actually a little on the thin side with a fairly forgettable bad guy but what makes the film is of course Gibson & Glover as Riggs & Murtagh one of the greatest big screen duos. The banter ,warmth and respect between the two characters is tremendously entertaining and you just can't help but root for them.

Highlander (1986)
Highlander (1986)
1986 | Action, Adventure, Fantasy
Classic 1980s fantasy movie, in which a Frenchman (Christopher Lambert) plays a Scot, a Scot (Sean Connery) plays an Egyptian by way of Spain and an American (Clancy Brown) plays the Russian villain (the Kurgan), all as immortal swordsmen who must duel down through the ages (only being killed when their head is separated from their neck) in search of the mysterious Prize.

Supported by a brilliant soundtrack by Queen - 'Who Wants to Live Forever' has to be amongst their best - and with the immortal line 'There Can Be Only One', leading to 6 sequels and a TV series!

Gore
Watched today as a sequel to the orignal candyman its probably better than the previous sequels which I've never and probably won't cause I hear they aren't as good. Anyway to the movie itself it has plenty of gore so that ticked that box and one scene stood out for me group of college girls make the mistake of saying his name five times big mistake good acting performances from both the leads. There's some photography especially of Chicago which stand out for me. Overall good sequel which is worthy follow up to the orignal

Saw II (2005)
Saw II (2005)
2005 | Horror, Mystery
Out of the slew of sequels that followed in the wake of the success of the first film, Saw II is easily the most watchable.

Everything is upped - more blood, more victims, more absurd traps for them to escape from - but it succeeds where the other sequels miserably failed, keeping it all fairly reigned in for the most part, assuring that the plot carries a substantial amount of intrigue, instead of getting buried under gratuitous torture.

We get to see more Tobin Bell this time around, which is certainly a good thing. His increased presence as antagonist Jigsaw is a high point of the movie. Donnie Wahlberg and Shawnee Smith have a little more to do in the franchise going forward, but the rest of the cast are hugely dull and forgettable, obvious cannon fodder for Jigsaws' games.

The various traps are imaginative without going overboard as well, and are effective - the pit of syringes, the pig carcasses, and especially the lockbox with wrist slicing blades, are all pretty memorable without throwing heaps of gore at the viewer.

Saw II is a half decent follow up to the great original. You could happily watch the first two and not bother with any of the others, and still be suitably satisfied, unless, like me, you're a glutton for punishment.

Cool creature feature
An ok creature slasher, made better due to being directed by Stan Winston and B-movie horror star Lance Henriksen. This feels like it's an even older film, surprised it was made in '88! The creature design, costume is pretty cool as you would expect in a Stan Winston film. It looks like it owes a lot to the Alien creature design. The creature is played by the same guy used for the first two Predator films, Kevin Peter Hall. This has spawned 3 more sequels since. The 4th stars Lance Henriksen again! Worth checking out for old skool horror fans!

Paddington 2 (2017)
Paddington 2 (2017)
2017 | Animation, Comedy, Family
I haven't seen the first Paddington film so was worried if I'd miss the intricacies of the plot or character development. But like with other superhero origin films, I think that film's purpose was to set up the sequels.
The film has an excellent cast and a strong storyline to make the most of them.
My one main gripe would be that there is a well-known English actor playing a Scottish character (Julie Walters) and yet two well-known Scottish actors playing English characters (Peter Capaldi and Tom Conti) which just struck me as odd but I'm not going all SNP about it.

Iron Man 2 (2010)
Iron Man 2 (2010)
2010 | Action, Sci-Fi
Iron Man 2 was incredibly over-hyped, simply because of the stunning performance of its predecessor. Sequels are rarely better than the original and this is a fine example of that. Jon Favreau lost his way a little with this one as we get to see an immensely dislikable Tony Stark frolic his way through the first half.

Whiplash, the film’s main villain, is catastrophically underdeveloped and one of the MCU’s worst, despite an entertaining performance from Mickey Rourke. Thankfully, the special effects are good and the finale, while derivative, is fun and very well filmed.
