Hazel (2934 KP) rated Kill Again (Claire Waters #2) in Books
Oct 17, 2021
I have had this book on my to-be-read pile for years and I don't know why I waited so long to read it because I was gripped from the start. I haven't read the first in the series but this didn't cause a problem at all and certainly didn't detract from my reading experience.
I love the two main characters, Claire and Nick. They are interesting, flawed and totally believable. The pace is great and it's one of those books where you say "just one more chapter!" and before you know it, it's way past your bed time. The plot was gripping and I didn't guess who the killer was until the end when everything came together and finished satisfactorily for me.
It's a shame there haven't been any more books in this series - well none that I can find - because I would definitely read them however, I would recommend this to anyone who loves a good serial killer thriller and my thanks to Kensington Books and NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest, unbiased and unedited review.

Why Is Kyle Missing Trends?
In the couple of weeks before Christmas, Samantha Kidd has taken a temporary job as a social media influencer. Her friend Kyle Trent helped her get the job and is acting as her mentor. But when he misses a planned morning photo shoot, Samantha begins to worry. As she starts to get contradictory information about her friend, she knows something is wrong. Can she figure out what really happened?
This holiday entry, billed as a novella, is shorter than a typical novel in the series, but fans will hardly notice. There are still plenty of twists and turns that lead Samantha and us to the logical climax. Okay, so it was a bit rushed, but everything is explained. The characters, new and returning, are great, and we see more growth in Samantha. Along with that, we get some shenanigans from Samantha and plenty of humor. If you haven’t found this light, fun series yet, you’ll definitely enjoy it. And if you are a fan who hasn’t read this entry yet, you are in for a treat.

David McK (3194 KP) rated Monstrous Regiment: (Discworld Novel 31) in Books
Mar 31, 2023
One of the rare Discworld Standalone novels
Updated 2023 review
I wonder how this was affected by Pratchett's 'embuggerance'?
Original 2011 review
Not one of the strongest of Sir Terry Pratchett's Discworld books, this is only loosely - even more so than normal - connected to any of his other books in the series. Loosely connected, but not to the level of ""Small Gods"" (which is set centuries before the rest of the series), or "Pyramids".
In "Monstrous Regiment", Pratchett introduces a whole host of new characters - none of who have yet, been heard of again - as well as some new nations, with Commander Sam Vimes (from the City Watch books) and William De Worde (from "the Truth") only really having cameos in the story. He also exaggerates, to comic effect, the famous stories of women secretly joining the army, with this providing the basis for his plot.
As I said at the top, this is not one of the best of Pratchetts works, but even a below-par Pratchett is miles above any other author in the same genre

Merissa (11704 KP) rated Her Dark Angel (Her Angel: Bound Warriors #1) in Books
Apr 10, 2023 (Updated Apr 10, 2023)
The start of a new series by Felicity Heaton and what a start. Apollyon is still faithfully doing his duty and yet wants to be free from 'the fires of hell' and feel the sun on his wings again. Serenity has had a bad break-up from her cheating boyfriend and wants revenge, she wants him to feel as bad as she does. Both her heart and her words call out and Apollyon answers. I've got to say that if I was looking for revenge on an ex in this way then I would certainly hope for someone like Apollyon to drop into my life!
This is only a novella so the storyline is fast-paced so that everything is in place before it finishes. I can see this series being another hit for Felicity Heaton and am looking forward to reading more.

Merissa (11704 KP) rated Jade (Men of S.O.C. #2) in Books
Apr 11, 2023
Jade is the second book in the Special Operations Command series and follows the men as they work in the 'private sector' and get to pick and choose their jobs. Whilst still worthwhile, some of them, Jade included, miss the more high-risk jobs so when they get the chance to bring down a drugs ring with Cuba connections, they jump at the chance. Of course, things don't run smoothly and they find that Allie, Jaxon's sister, is up to her neck in trouble with a dodgy DA blackmailing her.
This is a high-impact, full-on action book and will leave you breathless. The wit and banter between Allie, Jade, and Jaxon are funny to read, with the relationship between siblings absolutely perfect. A brilliant continuation of the series and I look forward to reading more. Recommended.

Merissa (11704 KP) rated Embrace the Magic (The Blood Rose #2) in Books
Apr 14, 2023
What a wonderful story! This is a rich and in-depth tale from the Nine Realms with a history of over 40 years in the making. Samantha has to learn just who she is and also about people that she thought she knew. Ethan has to make peace with himself for something that he has carried out needless guilt for far too long. Putting these two together is explosive! I loved how they worked so well together, neither one smothering the other, instead providing strength and support whenever it was needed.
The story flows well and there are no plot holes that I fell into. The characters, whether 'good' or 'bad' are well-rounded and believable. The Blood Rose series continues to shine and I have no hesitation in recommending this book or the series.

Apr 15, 2023
What can I say? I loved this book! It is fast-paced and well-written with fantastic characters that jump off the page. Having 'cats' and 'dogs' on either side of the war is a stroke of genius but the general storyline itself is fresh and interesting. I loved how Hayden is not backwards in coming forwards and has no difficulty in showing Jasper that she is interested.
This series has a lot of potential for me as there was so much I thoroughly enjoyed about it. The shifters, the 'bond' between the guards and the Queen, Darian, Brice, Tara, Shay - it's all there. I can't wait to read more and follow this series through.
A romantic fantastical read that was absolutely brilliant to read. Witty, funny, focused, and mysterious are all words I would use to describe it. Highly recommended.

Merissa (11704 KP) rated Claiming His Cowgirl (Crawley Creek #3) in Books
Apr 18, 2023
The third in the series concentrates on second chances, which I love. Vin made a decision twenty years ago that he has regretted ever since. Now he has a chance to put it right, and maybe get his very own HEA.
This series is a like a warm blanket you pull over to snuggle down. The characters are familiar and the new ones quickly become favourites. The humour and love are rampant and are the mainstay of the book, which makes it wonderful for a sappy romantic like myself.
I loved how Lori intertwined the new and old storylines, bringing about a hot and steamy romance, whilst getting updates on stories already told, preparing for new stories and don't forget, battling Mother Nature.
With some definite smokin' scenes, this is guaranteed to warm you up. Definitely recommended.

Merissa (11704 KP) rated Shadowed (Hollow City Coven #2) in Books
Apr 19, 2023
The second book in the Hollow City Coven series continues where Book 1 left off. Gillian and Shayne are together, sort of, as they travel to try and find more information about Tenebris. Gillian has a starting point, but the Midnight Market is not for the faint of heart.
With an FF kiss, and some steamy action from Gillian and Shayne, this book continues to be hot and steamy. However, this instalment is also mysterious and suspenseful. It also comes complete with an ending that leaves you wanting the next book in this series immediately.
For everything that you do, there is a price to pay. Is Gillian's price for going to the Midnight Market going to be too high? I certainly hope not but I am looking forward to Book 3 to find out. Definitely recommended.
