Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2165 KP) rated Murder in the Mountains in Books
Feb 2, 2022
High Altitude Homicide
It’s murder and mayhem in the mountains in this collection of nine short stories. We get mountains from all over the world and stories set in every season, not just ski season. From a deadly hike or two to a hot chocolate contest with a dead body, there is plenty to keep you entertained.
Each story is from a different author, and each story is fun. A couple are filled with enough other things going on that the mysteries are short changed, but those are the exceptions. Many of these characters have appeared elsewhere, but that doesn’t truly matter as each story introduces you to the characters. These stories are on the long side for short stories; they averaged about 45 minutes each for me to read, so there is plenty here to keep you entertained. If you are missing a mountain vacation, this collection is perfect for you. Personally, I’m going to stay home where it is safe and pick up another book.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2165 KP) rated Halloween Hoedowns Can be Deadly in Books
Nov 1, 2022
That Corpse Isn’t a Decoration
New friends Levi Blue, a former tween actor, and Sho Tanaka, a disgraced nurse, are helping out at a Halloween hoedown in town. However, things take an unexpected turn when they find the dead body of the town’s librarian in a trunk. Since it’s doubtful she crawled in by herself, can the dynamic duo figure out what happened to her?
When this author crossed my radar a couple of weeks ago, I decided to read this short story right away since it fit the season. I’m so glad I did. While it may be a short story, it is packed with fun. I laughed multiple times, and at one scene in particular. I really liked the characters, and they felt strong even though this was a short story. And the plot was good with a nice twist and a great use of clues. I read it in under an hour, and now I can’t wait to see Levi and Sho again.

Suswatibasu (1701 KP) rated When Breath Becomes Air in Books
Jul 24, 2017
Beautiful and poignant
Probably not the best idea to read this while you're in hospital but I did. It was beautiful, humanising doctors, after the roles are reversed. Paul Kalanithi's short but wholesome life is a testament to many others surviving this awful disease.
Jeremy King (346 KP) rated Historic Haunts Florida in Books
May 13, 2019
Every time i travel i pick up Historical Haunts book for that area. The stories are short. It will give you a page of info about the place and a page about the haunt. I would liked to see more meat on the bones.
Peter G. (247 KP) rated World War Z (2013) in Movies

Dean (6925 KP) rated Wolves at the Door (2016) in Movies
Jan 19, 2018
A thriller based on the true story of the Manson family's murders in the summer of '69. It feels like a cliche home invasion film. With a run time of 73 minutes it feels like half a film.
Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2165 KP) rated Sugar Cookie Murder (Hannah Swensen, #6) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
A short novella provides a fun mystery. Then you get tons of recipes for many complete meals. Different for the series but still fun.

Sean Farrell (9 KP) rated Drawn to New York: An Illustrated Chronicle of Three Decades in New York City in Books
Mar 15, 2018
Combining artworks and short storytelling, this graphic novel gives an interesting account of the New York experience over the last several decades. While some moments are especially engaging, there are a few too many that fall flat to make this more than passingly entertaining.
