Again better than critic give it credit for.
Ever since I saw the first trailer for this film I wanted to see more.

The opening half an hour of the film for me was a rather slow burner. That being said the story that is being told and entire plot is something that we need more off. Some people will look at this film at see it as making a political point others will look at it and go it got great chi others will go great sci fi. That happens to be what makes it special is that it bridges the gap of so many diffrent genres and age groups maybe that why it can come across as disjointed at times.

This film is also a film I think you need to watch a couple of times to truly grasp it depth and meaning and the true beauty of it. This may put some people off but it has left me wanting to watch again to truly grasp everything and if that is not the Mark of a great film well I dont know what is.

Slow Burner
This series came highly recommended, but I didn't get into it straightaway. In all honesty, I failed to see what was so captivating about the object of the stalker's affections, Beck. She came across as vapid and irritating, and unable to take responsibility for herself.

If you are able to get past the annoying characters and suspend belief/overlook certain flaws, then it's actually a very good story, which is worth persevering with.

The story is told from the POV of the stalker, Joe, and we get a good insight into his reasoning and rationale, and watch how he twists situations and circumstances to his advantage.

I probably wouldn't have persevered after the first episode, mainly because I found Beck so annoying, but my husband was enjoying it so we carried on watching. I'm glad we did (although Beck doesn't get any less irritating, if I'm honest).

The twist in the final episode of the series was a real cliffhanger to end on; rather than loose ends being tied up, things are becoming more unravelled for Joe.

Ronnie has grown up with only her grandmother in her corner. Everyone else freaks out when they learn of what Ronnie can do. Even her mother, a first class b**ch if ever there was one, leaves her. Ronnie has developed a shell which helps to keep others at bay. Fate has a different idea for Ronnie's life though, and circumstances move beyond her control, both in her professional life and also her personal.

This is a very well-written Romance, with a hint of paranormal/supernatural in the form of ghosts and visions. It is a slow burner between Ronnie and Brad, which made it all the more satisfying when they made their moves. The struggles that Ronnie faces as she tries to change her life, and let people in, are real. Brad has his own baggage from the past that he is still trying to deal with.

This is a fantastic book, and I would love to see more of these characters and the supporting cast.

Now, before I start, let me say that R.S. McCoy is an author that I have long admired, for the twists and turns she can put on her books. So I was expecting something 'different' when I started reading The Killing Jar, but not what I got!

This book is told from multiple points of view which, although slightly confusing to begin with, quickly becomes necessary as you learn about the characters, their world, their situations and what lies ahead of them.

With an intricate and in-depth story, fascinating characters, backstories and plot twists, this was a thoroughly enjoyable Sci-Fi. This is a slow-burner of a book, don't expect to be swept away from the very beginning. However, if you stay with it, you will be pulled into this world, with it's class system and rules. By the time you are partway through, you will be completely bound to this book, needing to know what happens next.

With no editing or grammatical errors that jumped out at me, I would have no hesitation in recommending this.

Having read and enjoyed Lesley's previous two books, The Rumour and Who Did You Tell?, I jumped at the chance to read this, her latest outing and, once again, I wasn't disappointed.

The Dare is an enthralling read where you can literally feel the tension building as the story unfolds. I was absolutely immersed from start to finish in the story of Lizzie and her best friend, Alice from both the "then" and "now" perspectives - this may sound confusing but, believe me, it's not.

After the accident that killed her best friend 12 years ago, Lizzie is trying to rebuild her life; she is engaged to be married to a GP, her epilepsy is under control and she is thinking of going to university however, things start to happen that quickly threaten that happiness.

The Dare is a slow-burner, that builds in tension, intrigue and suspense. I found it riveting and hard to stop reading and I would certainly recommend to people who enjoy an excellent psychological thriller with an enthralling plot and great twists.

Thank you to Random House UK, Transworld Publishers and NetGalley for my advance copy in return for an honest, unbiased and unedited review.

LORD OF THE LAST HEARTBEAT is the first book in the Sacred Dark series, and we focus on Mio and Rhodry. Both of these have secrets and 'powers' that have an effect on their lives. Mio no longer wants to 'help' his mother, but can't see a way out. Rhodry is intrigued by the younger man, but fears trying anything due to the curse he is living under.

What a fantastical world Ms Peterson has invented, with a hint of American Civil War era, coupled with the English Victorian period, this was a great combination of worlds. And yes, I realise I may have the time periods wrong, but that is what it reminded me of!

I loved how the story for both Rhodry and Mio came out slowly, the reader learning bits and pieces of it until it all fell together. Their relationship was the same way, a slow burner with temptation and resistance.

This was an intriguing tale, with plenty of mystery and misdirection thrown in. An amazing cast of characters helps to move the story along.

A wonderful start to the series, and I can't wait to see what happens next. Absolutely recommended by me.

Internship with the Devil is the first book in the Shut Up and Kiss Me series and we meet Brock and Grace. Their relationship is tumultuous at times but with a solid grounding in friendship first. This is a slow-burner that will keep you hanging on, just waiting for that first kiss!

I loved how the tension was there all the way through but both of them were completely professional. I'm not saying I didn't want something to happen, just that I can appreciate it not happening! Although Brock holds his cards close to his chest, Grace has the ability to wriggle beneath his guard and gets him to loosen up. She is a hard worker and isn't prepared to dramatise things for no reason.

There is a brilliant supporting cast of characters and I hope that some, if not all, of them have their own stories in the future.

A wonderful read that I highly recommend.

This book is what I would describe as a slow burner in the very best sense - the author has given the characters time to develop, to become their own person, before they even attempt a relationship together. Nothing seems rushed in this story, indeed we start the book when Orwenna is still quite young.

Although she is given quite a bit of leeway from her father, as detailed in the book, she is eventually betrothed to marry someone of her father's choosing. So when she happens upon an opportunity for adventure, she takes it almost like a last hoorah.

This is a book filled with adventure, myth and magic. There are good and bad on both sides which you will find out about. Very well-written and with a good plot line. The characters are both believable and likeable. I am looking forward to reading more in this series. Definitely recommended.

As with the first in the series, The Serial Killer's Wife, this is not your usual serial killer story and although this is the second book, you don't have to have read the first ... this can be listened to/read as a standalone very easily.

Jenny is a local vet living with her husband and 2 children in a quiet village in Devon where nothing usually happens but then a young woman goes missing, Jenny is having blackouts and someone is leaving her "presents" on her doorstep. Jenny starts to doubt her own sanity and suspects those around her but could it be related to her father, the serial killer known as The Painted Lady Killer? Is Jenny taking after her father?

This is a great book to listen to and although it's a slow burner, it certainly kept me engaged throughout. It's full of suspense and mystery with a great twist at the end and I particularly liked the narrators who did a great job.

Many thanks to HarperCollins UK Audio and NetGalley for enabling me to listen to The Serial Killer's Daughter and share my thoughts.

I received this book from YA Bound Books Tours and NetGalley as part of the blog tour in return for a fair and honest review.

This book has a unique (as far as I know) concept in that scientists have figured out the way to harness the energy from stars into actually making wishes come true. The name for this project is the Cricket Project ie Jiminy Cricket from Pinocchio.

It is a slow burner that builds up and tries to incorporate a lot of different elements into it - high school, romance, sci-fi, government plots, time alteration to name just some. Because of this, it can be quite jumpy as it flits from one aspect to another. There were also some aspects of it that just seemed completely unbelievable - and that's if you turn a blind eye to the actual star part of it. For example, a 16-year-old that thinks it is perfectly acceptable to go sneaking into a government building by stealing her dad's pass-card. And then nothing happens once she is caught except that she is offered a job!

An interesting concept with a twist but just not right for me. I liked it but I won't be going any further with the series.
