Two Rooms and a Boom
Two Rooms and a Boom
2013 | Bluff, Deduction
This is one of my absolute favorite social deduction board games. Each person has a secret identity that you can choose to share (or not) with other players in the game. You need to be good at both bluffing and social deduction to win.

This game is best with 11-20 players. You can play with any number, but it starts getting a little unwieldly once you get up to 25-30.

It is not hard to teach this game- I play it in class with my college students and it doesn't take too long before they catch on.

LOVE this series
I have watched 7 episodes of the 10 episodes series.

I feel this series is beautifully written. It makes you want to delete all your social media accounts lol. I feel Penn Badgley is really good for the role as it reminds me of Dan Humphreys in Gossip Girl but a lot darker. It makes you feel what you really do on social media and make you evaluate what you do and make yourself safe.

I will be watching more of this series.

White Trash: The 400-Year Untold History of Class in America

"Undergirding so much of the discourse surrounding resentment in America right now is the conversation about race. While the notion of “blackness” is often at the forefront of such discussions, the idea of “whiteness” is frequently left unexamined. In her surprising new book, Isenberg goes into the history of how the “white trash” identity is directly related to social caste and economic realities that are perpetually unacknowledged in American castings of itself, its character and its history. White Trash is at once informative, painful and enlightening in how complex our obsession with social-standing-by-virtue-of-color has evolved."

This is a short and snappy novella - a quick and enjoyable read. A lot like social media, really - and that’s what it’s all about. I’d heard of catfishing before, but I have to admit that I didn’t really know what the term meant (fyi: “the process of luring someone into a relationship by means of a fictional online persona”).

I would imagine this could be read in one sitting quite quickly (this was a book that The Pigeonhole serialised over five days), because the action is pretty relentless - much like social media, really! I think it holds a mirror up to society’s reliance on social media - usually minus the murder (I hope!) - and how we’re all deeply influenced by it.

There are some deeply unpleasant people in this, but that’s never a bad thing, in my own opinion. It’s an entertaining read, and worth your time!
Thanks to The Pigeonhole for serialising this, and to Kevin Landt for joining in the discussion!

3.5/5 stars: I really loved the storyline of this book. It definitely hooked and kept my attention love all the social media aspects they brought into it as well. I was however disappointed in the ending I don't feel like it was thought out.

A film thoroughly deserving of its Oscar success. A brilliantly original and clever slice of satire and social commentary. It’s got many twists in its tail and certainly doesn’t end how you would expect. One you will certainly be thinking about for days afterwards.

I was thinking, perhaps we could have an option on our profile to add our Tiktok accounts as one of our social media pages? It's one of the most popular apps these days, and so I'm sure plenty of Smashbombers would appreciate the option :)

"This Brazilian film explores the way that social class divisions inform and confine us, and the horrified responses that can erupt when someone pushes back against that. It examines precisely how change can happen in small increments, leading to a definite and satisfying result."
