Weird
A odd series full of strange characters on vacation at a resort in Hawaii. The cast is impressive and scenery looks great. There just doesn't appear to be any real plot as such. More like a social commentary about people with money. Some funny moments but overall rather dysfunctional.

The story follows America, an unlikely heroine, in a futuristic USA where presidency has been overthrown and monarchy rules. In order to stop riots and rebellions across the country the monarchy organises a selection of women from different social classes (ordered by number) to compete to marry the crown prince. America is a singer, a woman of a lower class above only manual labourers, slaves and the homeless. Her large heart, rebellious spirit and social class endear her to both the prince and the people however the king sees her as a threat and will do everything in his power to get rid of her.

A hysterical cautionary tale for people who would like nothing better than to control-alt-delete all social media, The Circle uses finger-wagging scare tactics to admonish app-addicted millennials to momentarily ditch Facebook..

"The granddaddy of them all. A landmark achievement in technical innovation, social awareness, and sheer terror. The handheld look so many filmmakers use today was very new in the ’60s, when visual styles were very “locked down.” It was my first experience watching someone get disemboweled, and you don’t easily forget that."

"Film historians name it the return of JLG to commercial cinema (after his '70s experiments). If so, let's all be commercial. A film with thousands of cinematic ideas, brilliantly moving and emotionally brilliant. Also, an enormous, terrible and funny scene which connects sex with social hierarchy, sound with image, film directors with CEOs."

"There was something odd about how much I loved this book. Looking back I realize it was the precursor to Instagram. It was social sharing pre iPhone. Pour through it today— it’s like a day’s worth of scrolling. It was the beginning of global voyeurism. I love this book for this reason."
