David McK (3369 KP) rated Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) in Movies
Sep 20, 2020 (Updated Apr 10, 2023)
The last truly enjoyable Robin Hood movie, mostly because of Alan Rickman's sneering and preening Sheriff of Nottingham ("no more merciful beheadings, and call off Christmas!"), even if Costner can't do an English accent ("This is true English courage", said with a Californian drawl), that it has no understanding of English geography (apparently Nottingham is only a few miles walk from Dover) or that it is darker than you remember (ending with, essentially, an attempted rape scene).
For all that, however, this - at least - attempted to deepen and add some context to the Robin Hood legend - I think this may be the first where Robin returns from the Crusades with as Moorish companion? - and has a killer soundtrack by both Michael Kamen (especially the overture) and Bryan Adams (with *that* song in the end credits).

Blazing Minds (92 KP) rated Tenet (2020) in Movies
Nov 1, 2021 (Updated Nov 3, 2021)
Right from the very start, you not only get a massive screen to see all the action on, which in itself adds to the feel of TENET, but you also get that IMAX sound and that is used brilliantly in the film, the bass rumbles through the seats and into your body with the superb soundtrack from Ludwig Göransson (Black Panther, The Mandalorian), listen out for moments when parts of the instruments and music reverse to play with your mind, brilliantly done and a joy to listen to.
TENET also looks stunning with the cinematography from Hoyte Van Hoytema (Dunkirk, Interstellar), it is beautifully shot and the use of the IMAX cameras makes certain scenes really pop such as the theatre scene which makes you feel as if you are in the vast auditorium.

Great cast (3 more)
Fantastic dialogue
Some amazing visuals
Brilliant soundtrack
Finally watched this film in the last month or so! Not sure how I have avoided it for all these years, though I'm kind of glad I did, as I've gotten to experience it with my fully-adult-drifting-through-life-mind, rather than my scatty-wild-drunk-university-mind. The visuals are amazing (at most points) and draw you into a world that most people cannot imagine. The characters are brilliantly portrayed with a stellar cast. This film shot into my Top 10 immediately when I realised that I instantly couldn't wait until the next time I watch it. It's grimy and unforgiving, with just the right amount of humour. Even though it gets disturbing, you are glued to the screen with irresistible charisma. I've never quite experienced anything like it.

Good but overrated
I really disliked this on watching this at the cinema, but after watching it again for a second time I have changed my first impression - but it is still a bit overrated.
The performances are good and I like the storyline itself and it's message about today's society. The twist and the resolution were pretty good if not a little bonkers, and Chris and Rod are really endearing characters. It's some of the horror and suspense aspects themselves that I have an issue with. Sometimes the direction and soundtrack really work to create tension and suspense, but then in other scenes it lacks any subtlety whatsoever and actually becomes funny. Lingering shots on characters looking over the top creepy really doesn't work.
But this aside, it's still one of the better horror films of recent years, even if it doesn't live up to the hype.

Cool guitar soundtrack by Neil Young
Indie Western Wizardry
Seemingly meek & mild William Blake (Depp) travels from Cleveland to the town of Machine, with all his hopes pinned to taking up a a promised position as an accountant. Soon after arriving he finds the job already taken and his path taking an unexpected and deadly turn, that leads him into the spirit world of Nobody, his new and strange Indian friend.
This film is a little dark, alot violent, pretty mysterious and atmospheric. As well as the amazing work of Depp and Farmer, there is a star studded cost including, Robert Mitchum, John Hurt, Gabriel Byrne, Billy Bob Thornton & Iggy Pop to name a few. Depp is nothing less than brilliant as he evades those hunting him down and as he follows Nobody deeper and deeper into his unusual world.
