Julia Louis-Dreyfus recommended Hoosiers (1986) in Movies (curated)

Hoosiers (1986)
1986 | Drama, Sport

"OK, but guess what? It doesn’t matter that you’re Australian. You need to watch it, because you’ll be completely sucked in. First of all, it’s Gene Hackman. Need I say more? Gene Hackman is the best American actor living today, in my view. And it is a sports story, but it’s so much more. It’s about an underdog team and beating the odds. It’s about teamwork. And I am a basketball fan, but I will tell you that before I was a basketball fan, I was a fan of Hoosiers. That’s why I’m saying I think you should watch it, because you’ll really, really enjoy it. Dennis Hopper kills it. It’s heartbreaking, his performance. And there’s a scene at the beginning of Hoosiers — it’s going to sound crazy, but Gene Hackman is driving and he’s drinking from a takeaway cup of coffee, and the way he’s drinking the coffee is so real and so authentic. He just gives an accurate… such appreciation for every gesture… every movement of that man."

The Outsider
The Outsider by Stephen King follows Ralph Anderson as he pursues a murder investigation as a Police Detective. To elaborate further, the investigation leads Ralph Anderson to the murder of a young boy, who was also sexually assaulted by the now, unknown murderer. Terry Maitland, a married man and Coach of Youth Sports, is a highly respected member of society, but he is to become suspected of murder owing to irrefutable Forensic Evidence and Witness Statements.

Despite this, Terry Maitland denies this immediately, and has an alibi which is seemingly irrefutable, just as the Forensic Evidence and Witness Statements against him were. His alibi positions him hours away from the where the murder occurred. Terry Maitland was now a man able to be in two places at once.

An absolutely enthralling book by Stephen King which I was unable to put down, and thoroughly enjoyed reading. Admittedly, The Outsider was one of the first Stephen King books that I read; I have since read multiple of his books.

This light and at times steamy kicked off the start of 2021 with a bang (of bodies hitting the boards, and the clashing of hockey sticks as pucks hit the ice)!

Austen hosts a popular online section for the Dallas Devils, going on "dates" with the players and introducing them to the fans... All went well until it was the turn of jock Dane, an athlete with a reputation for disliking the media and being a fan of the puck bunnies!

What follows for the duo with a great deal of chemistry, is a bumpy road which threatens to impact both of their careers and their relationship!

The first in the Dallas Devils series, and Winters does not disappoint with this contemporary sports romance. It was an easy read with a great deal of depth, well paced and oozing chemistry.

The story progression worked well with Winters' writing style, with added drama from a historical back story which is explained in further books, and a great antagonist.

Hoping book 2 is just as interesting!
