"It was the first song that I ever sang at a live talent show when I was seven years old. There were 400 people in the audience. It was in Mission, B.C., where I was born and raised, and my dad actually accompanied me on the acoustic guitar. We played the Bangles and 'Beauty and the Beast,' and I won that competition. It was like my first time out on stage, and my first thrill of winning a little trophy."

"What other great films are there? Ah, for God’s sake, There Will Be Blood and No Country For Old Men. I saw those films that year, back to back. Just outstanding work by director, writer, producers, actors. Captivating, both men: Javier Bardem and Daniel Day Lewis — just iconic. Every time he steps on the stage, you know, you can’t take your eyes off the guy. And both films sit on the bookshelf as bookends, really, to that special year of film making."

These two classics remind me that music and dance can say more than any other kind of action, and that life is a stage whether you are on it or directing it."
