Merissa (12723 KP) rated Scorched by Darkness (Eternal Mates #18) in Books
Apr 19, 2021 (Updated Jul 27, 2023)
SCORCHED BY DARKNESSEternal Mates series and what a joy it was to get back into this series, having missed the last couple of stories.
Hartt and Mackenzie are both assassins, both charged with killing the same mark, the King of Death himself. They start off as just two rival assassins, but things quickly change when they realise they are fated mates. Neither of them wants to be with someone just because Fate said so though, so Hartt goes above and beyond to prove he loves her. Plus, he does have some grovelling to do because of Iolanthe!
This was a brilliantly paced story, with plenty of intrigue to move the story along, plus steamy times. I loved seeing couples I have met before, and how their personalities change and yet remain the same. Read it, you'll understand what I mean!
I also loved the hints about Syn. I really can't wait to learn her story. I am wondering if she'll be the next story, but either way, I can't wait for this to continue. A brilliant addition to the series, and definitely recommended by me.

Lily is on the streets of South Africa when we first meet her, not knowing the story behind how she ended up there. Jacob comes along as her saviour, but is he really, or just a wolf in sheep's clothing?
The chemistry is there between these two from the start, but Jacob does a good job of restraining himself. Jacob is most definitely an alpha male, and Lily, although she comes across as incredibly naive, almost ditzy in places, she is the perfect match for him.
This is one helluva fast-paced, action-filled, and steamy in places, book that will delight and enthral you from start to finish. There is an introduction to a group of people that will fill out the paranormal side of things, I'm sure.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. However, the tiny blood-thirsty part of me was hoping for Lily to get her own back against her father and step-brother. I guess I will just have to wait and see if she shows up in further books.

Merissa (12723 KP) rated Embrace the Wind (The Blood Rose #7) in Books
May 24, 2023
OK, call me shallow, but I have to admit that reading about a tattooed man, with long hair, into bikes, makes the story a lot easier to read. I love The Blood Rose series, but this book was outstanding. I love how although the Mastyrs are important, it is their Blood Roses who are coming into their own. Each is different, each bringing just what is needed, I think they are all magnificent but I will admit to loving Olivia's attitude! She rocks!!
As with the other books, the Mastyr and the Blood Rose have their own obstacles to overcome, as well as whatever Marghetta is currently throwing at them. One of the things that make this series so interesting is that each couple has their own problems, it's not the same old reasons regurgitated for a new title.
Well written, with a smooth pace, leading up to a climactic battle at the end, this is a book to savour and enjoy. Steamy and sensuous, as well as action-packed, this is an excellent addition to the series. Already looking forward to Ian and Regan's story. Definitely recommended.

Merissa (12723 KP) rated The Curse Between Us in Books
Mar 28, 2025
THE CURSE BETWEEN US is a standalone story of opposites - hot Rafria and icy Eskarven, long at war with each other. When both kings die, the crowns are passed on to Edric of Rafria and Zephyr of Eskarven. With help, they come up with a plan to stop the war, but that just unleashes a prophecy neither was aware of.
This was a great story, with plenty of world-building and lore without being bogged down by all the minutiae. The differences in both the characters and places help build within the story, and nothing is just easy and solved with the wave of a hand. The relationship between Edric and Zephyr is slow-burn but with plenty of emotions. It does lead to some steamy moments but doesn't overtake the story.
This is the second book by this author I have read and it has been proven that intricate and emotional stories are what to expect, which I love! A fantastic story that I thoroughly enjoyed and have no hesitation in HIGHLY RECOMMENDING.

Merissa (12723 KP) rated Enforcer's Little Warrior (Little Paws Haven #3) in Books
Apr 18, 2025
ENFORCER'S LITTLE WARRIOR is the third book in the Little Paws Haven series and really must be read in order due to the overarching story.
We met both Romy and Bash in the previous books but they weren't together. After rescuing some baby rhinos, they set themselves up to look after them. This means that steamy moments are on hold, as most new parents will tell you! Instead, you have cute moments where Bash tries to show Romy how much he means to him. Romy is sweet but is overwhelmed with pretty much everything.
I enjoyed this book but it didn't push my buttons as the previous books have. The arc moves forward at a trot and I felt as though I lost some of the connection with the characters in THIS book to ensure the overall story moves along. We do meet with Cosmo and his mates, but Gabai and Asher are only mentioned, as is Little Paws Haven itself.
Overall, this was a good read and I definitely want to continue with the series.

Debbiereadsbook (1416 KP) rated The Twelve Disasters of Christmas in Books
Jan 7, 2019
really enjoyed this!
Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book.
This is book five in the Manx Cat Guardians series, and you probably SHOULD read he other books first. Some things are mentioned here, that happened in those books and not all is fully recapped.
Brad is sex-bribed into giving a Christmas party for Martin and his work colleagues. Brad never had a proper Christmas before and he wants it to be perfect. Things take a turn, and it's one thing after another going wrong. And just what is going on with his cat, Princess??
I really enjoyed this latest book in this series! It's funny and witty; emotional and painful; and sexy and steamy! So bloody sexy and steamy! The guys have a *thing* Brad and Martin, Joe and Stuart, and Greg and Aaden. So freaking hawt but they are spoil sports too! "Look, but not touching!"
But it's Brad and this party that take centre stage. Well, mostly, more on what I mean shortly! The party of the century has to be perfect and things keep going wrong for poor Brad! Greg has a hiccup too! I'm not going into any details, cos of spoilers, but you feel for them, as one thing after another goes wrong!
Poor Max (Aaden's cat) has been given an impossible choice. When it becomes clear just WHY the witchy-woo (I had to laugh at that name given to her!) is doing what she is doing, Max' decision is easy, but the witchy-woo ain't happy. Neither is Princess when she finds out what Max did to save her life so I'm hoping she comes round!
Brad, Greg, Joe and Nick (Aaden's little brother) all have a say, the other guys don't. But when Nick had HIS say, it made me want to hear from Brody (Aaden's best friend) Because of what Nick has to say, because there is something going on with Brody we don't yet know about, because of what happens after Brody picks Nick up after they all get drunk, I NEEDED Brody, and we don't get him.
And this is what I meant earlier. While the party is the main plot line of the book, Nick and Brody's story is being laid out too, and to ME, that is a far more important part of this story, than a party. Nick has a LOT to say about what he feels about Brody, even if he is Aaden's best friend, and I have a feeling Brody isn't as indifferent to the squirt as he makes out.
I don't get Brody here, and I NEEDED him, and that's the ONLY reason I gave it
4 stars
But that's just me, spitting my dummy out and having a hissy fit with these books, AGAIN!! Ms Sayle keeps doing that to me! I very much look forward to seeing what Ms Sayle does to illicit such reactions from me!
