Kristin (149 KP) rated Strange Little Girls in Books
Dec 7, 2018
Disclaimer: I received an e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
The title definitely doesn't lie -- these are some STRANGE little girls. Each story is so different from the last, and they all suck you in and don't let up until the end. There are even a couple I could see being turned into at least a novella on their own, as I would love to read more about that particular girl's story.
Really interesting read, and since it's a collection of short stories, you can read a little bit at a time and not forget where you are.

Not my normal go to read, but it sucked me in and won't let go. This story has a good flow to it, making for an easy read that can be finished rather quickly if you have the time. It is a rather strange, yet intriguing story about Louise, who pretends to be a different type of person than she really is, until it all twists horribly out of control. Did not expect the ending, but it was a good fit. The end left some open lines to continue the story if the author sees fit at a later date.

Ssshhhhh!
I wasn't sure about this film to start with but gave it a go.
The main story is basically about a family who have to be quiet or the alien type monsters that live within the grounds will attack.
The family use sign language to communicate and have mastered various methods for getting around the house and local area without making any noise.
It is a survival film and although it was strange watching a film with barely any talking in it i did actually enjoy it!

Sometimes they do laugh a little too much at their own remarks but as the show is so entertaining, this isn't too much of a problem and you just find yourself thinking "oh shut up" rather than getting annoyed with it...

Dean (6926 KP) rated The Informers (2009) in Movies
Sep 10, 2018
A strange film, that seems totally random at times. It has a bit of an insight to the lives of a range of people in early 80's LA. From the spoilt rich kids, drugged up pop star, shady ex-con and a news reporter. The stories are very loosely interwoven. This is far from being anything like Crash though! There doesn't seem to be much of a plot to it at all or any conclusion. Just a brief look at their lives full of sex, drugs and 80's pop. A shame given the very strong cast list!

This book totally messed with my head! I loved it!
I'll admit it's a strange one and I haven't read anything like it before so to me it's definitely original. It's also very creepy and very tense. The author is great at building tension, it starts from the very first page and doesn't let you go until the end...even then you'll be thinking about it with your night-light on.
It's pretty scary to think this kind of thing happens in real life...talk about nightmare neighbours.

Roxanne (13 KP) rated The Lost Days (Emily the Strange Novels, #1) in Books

As a lover of the Gothic subculture and a fan of Emily the Strange merchandise I thought this book would be right up my street and I was very much looking forward to reading this. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed...I became very bored of the repetition and believe the book could have been so much shorter, at least a 100 pages shorter in my opinion. I did, however, enjoy the artwork and Emily's dry, dark sense of humour was amusing in places (this is why I gave 2 stars instead of 1) but apart from that this book just wasn't for me.
AT (1676 KP) rated Convenience Store Woman in Books
Feb 4, 2020
Convenience Store Woman is a weird little novel. Granted, Americans have a very different culture than the Japanese when it comes to marriage and jobs. This story follows a strange woman during her years of working at a convenience store, which she loves and does well at. However, the way she is viewed puts stress and panic on her to fit in with society. The story, itself, is quirky, but the main character is an odd duck, herself. Plus, if you're the type of reader that loves to hate characters, this book definitely has one for you!
Dean (6926 KP) rated Agatha Christie's The Pale Horse in TV
Feb 18, 2020
Artistic if a little underwhelming
I've seen over versions of this same story. It does feel strange not having either the Marple or Poirot characters in this version.
The BBC have done a few Christie adaptations recently with mixed success. While the production value is great setting it this time in the 60's the story itself feels quite thin. The first episode particularly feeling full of shots that don't really amount to much. Hopefully the next one they do will feel more like an Agatha Christie plot.
