Betrayal at House on the Hill
Betrayal at House on the Hill
2004 | Adventure, Exploration, Horror, Miniatures
Randomized board layout. (2 more)
50+ scenarios each with it's own set of rules.
Great teamwork and strategy.
Awesome co-op game
You start the game as an unlikely group of explorers who venture inside a creepy haunted house only to have the door shut and lock behind you, now you must find a way out. As you explore the various rooms you begin to find items like weapons, ritualistic artifacts and other "useful" things. If it's not an item or an empty room its an endless barrage of haunting, psychological events and hallucinations that keep the game thrilling and entertaining. When enough hauntings have occurredone of the explorers fall victim to the evil within the house and turns traitor. At this point you desipher what scenario you will be playing based on what cards/character initiated the haunt. After this each team (explorers vs traitor) takes their designated guide book and discovers their new goal. The game includes 50 scenarios with an addition 50 in the Widows Walk expansion. Every game is like you've never played it since the board layout, items, events, and even win goals are random every time. Just don't get trapped in the basement!?

Solo mode - play by yourself with various challenges (3 more)
Complex but not confusing
Aim of the game easy to grasp and fun
Beautiful Artwork
Can take a little while to set up (10 - 15 mins) (0 more)
Exceptional game that can be play solo as well as a group
I purchased/funded this game on Kickstarter and it's now one of my all time top 5 games I like to play. Even my wife loves it and it's the only game she requests to play. The gameplay has many elements to it allowing the you to stick with a favourite strategy or change it as you go along to best you chances of winning. The game is fun and has you always thinking of you next move. One big selling point for me my the solo mode where you can play the game by yourself (when you fancy it) and it does not disappoint. Solo mode plays exactly the same as the group mode except for giving you a challenge to achieve by the end of the game. I think this game is great and would bring hours of enjoyment to any keen gamer.

2013 | Dice Game
Dice Drafting (3 more)
Simple and easy to pick up and play quickly
Good for kids
light strategy
not very deep (0 more)
A cute and simple game, good for kids, interesting enough for adults to play with them
This is a fun little light game. You roll some dice, and then go around the table selecting the one that works best for your blue print and your building as you are building it. It's a small box so it can easily travel in a purse and be played at a pub while having pints of beer. Or take to the nephews house and play while having adult conversations. It has enough light interesting strategic choices to be for adults, and yet this would be great for kids to take on strategic choices that aren't intimidating. The choice is picking a color and a number die, the colors interact with the building a get points different ways, and the number is not only the value, but also the level, so you can't put a bigger number on top of a smaller number. You can play a few rounds in a half hour.

2014 | Card Game
Super simple.... if you've played hearts or spades, you can play diamonds. (1 more)
designs on the cars are kinda art deco and well done.
This is a the card game everyone can play, with just a small twist for strategy.
This is a very simple trick taking game, deal out the cards, someone leads and everyone follows suit if they can... the winner gets a special action based on the suit, and you also get the action of you throw off suit (you don't have any of them) The goal of the game is to get the diamonds into your vault, as those are the only ones you get points for.... once everyone has delt once, you count up the gems in your vault, biggest score wins. The depth of the game comes in deciding which cards to keep and which ones to pass and when to play them. This game is great for groups looking to catch up andtalk aout work and kids and family isues ,and yet still have something to do while talking or partaking in an adult beverage. Sightly deeper than spades or hearts, but not by much, and that's a good things for some groups.

This is a short story, that seems to follow the usual Kevin Hearne's strategy of setting a short story between the 'main courses' of his full novels: a taster, if you will, of what those novels are like.

In this particular case, this story is set after the events of [b:Tricked|106843|Tricked|Alex Robinson|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1347400465s/106843.jpg|102982] but before (I believe, not having read it yet!) of those from [b:Trapped|8428140|Trapped|Michael Northrop|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1395769555s/8428140.jpg|13291342], and deals some more with the aftermath of Atticus's trip to Valhalla in [b:Hammered|10443590|Hammered|Mark Ward|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1328728608s/10443590.jpg|15348265].

The Two Ravens of the title refers to Odin's birds Hugin and Munin, while the One Crow is the Morrigan, who appears to Atticus six years into training his apprentice Granuaile and insists that he must go on a journey with her.

If I'm honest, I found the previous full-length novel ([b:Tricked|106843|Tricked|Alex Robinson|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1347400465s/106843.jpg|102982]) to be a bit of a let-down; thankfully he appears to be back on form in this short story.

:-)
