SUMMER CAMP ISLAND Clip

Glitter glue, singing marshmallows, and dance contests figure prominently in Julia Pott’s gloriously askew take on adolescence at its most awkward.

Not a summer camp that I'd be frequenting...
Emma Davis an artist, returns to the summer camp (Camp Nightingale) that she went to as a girl. During her last (and only) stay, the three other girls in her cabin went missing with no trace, never to be found again. Emma's artwork reflects her inability to forget what happened.
When Camp Nightingale reopens after 15 years, the owner, Frances (Franny) Harris-White, invites her along to be an art instructor. Emma goes along to try and lay her ghosts to rest.
This had a real air of menace throughout. It felt like there was a possible abductor around every corner. A great thriller, and I very much enjoyed it. I have to admit to not liking any of the characters though. I didn't even feel sorry for Emma, and believe me, she has plenty for people to feel sorry for. This story is such dark and compulsive reading though. Great stuff!

Don't think this series will get anything under 5 * from me it's so unique and cool it seems at some points to mix myths and legends all with a summer camp that all sounds like so much fun - I truly need to be Ripleys friend in real life . amazing

"I couldn't put down this story of a group of friends who meet in summer camp as teenagers and remain close through middle age. I am always infatuated with Meg Wolitzer's characters, and her intense interest in their relationships and importance to each other. And she always makes me laugh."

I received this book as a giveaway on Goodreads.
First, I must say, this was the first book I read by Meg Wolitzer. And while it was long, she is a great writer. The story flowed in a way that didn't make it seem as long as it really was.

The Interestings, is the story of 6 friends who meet at an art summer camp. Ash, Ethan, Jonah, Goodman, and Cathy had all been to camp before, but this was the first year for Julie, who later became Jules. The friendship that they formed during this summer was one not to be broken, even over time. Spirit-In-The-Woods was a 'magical' place for Jules. Having just lost her father, she needed someplace to go that she could be free. The story is told through her eyes.

You see the friends go through several "Interesting" things together, marriage, jobs, kids, death, and something no one thought would/could happen.

All in all, this book was interesting, but not for any specific reason. This could have been any group of friends, that attended any summer camp, anywhere. I was always wanting to know what was going to happen next.

I feel that this movie was better than the first with the Summer camp setting and more of a gritty feel with a great music soundtrack. It definitely sets the tone and vibe of an 80s horror movie. It gives some great backstory for a couple of characters in the first movie in the trilogy. Overall, really well done.

Ben Ripley is thrilled to have completed his first semester at spy school and is looking forward to a summer to relax with family and friends. Unfortunately, he has to attend Spy Camp instead. Worse yet, evil organization SPYDER is after him again. Either he will join them or be killed. The action is not stop and we get to know the main characters a little better. Mix in a dose of humor, and you've got a winner that kids and adults will all enjoy.
