The plot: Robert McCall (Denzel Washington), a man of mysterious origin who believes he has put the past behind him, dedicates himself to creating a quiet new life. However, when he meets Teri (Chloƫ Grace Moretz), a teenager who has been manhandled by violent Russian mobsters, he simply cannot walk away. With his set of formidable skills, McCall comes out of self-imposed retirement and emerges as an avenging angel, ready to take down anyone who brutalizes the helpless.

I really enjoyed this. It was a really good BDSM/erotic romance book and I was captivated by it from early on, maybe even then first page. It kept me reading well into the night on the two days it took me to read it.
The characters were well developed and I liked both of them. Mac was the hard-arsed cop who never really let himself get totally into a relationship and Violet was the mysterious Dom who wanted to make him hers.
Add in the mystery of who was killing the male submissives and you get an erotic romance with splashes of suspense here and there.
I enjoyed their journey, both in the bedroom/cellars and out of it, and look forward to reading more from this author.

The protagonist and also narrative voice, Bee was annoying at times with her opinionated piety and judgmental attitude which, even in the light of her grief made her seem bigoted rather than detached through her mourning.
Whilst I liked the device used to create the twist at the end I had guessed who the murderer was way before it was revealed because his relationship with Bee was so implausible.
I found the plot boring at times and felt the genetic research element of the plot sensationalist and naive.
The relationship portrayed between Bee and her murdered sister, Tess was the strongest part of the book. It was written quite movingly at times and was very vivid and heart-warming. However, this was very much marred by the poor thriller-style plot.

The Plot: Blank-faced bug killer Bill Lee (Peter Weller) and his dead-eyed wife, Joan (Judy Davis), like to get high on Bill's pest poisons while lounging with Beat poet pals. After meeting the devilish Dr. Benway (Roy Scheider), Bill gets a drug made from a centipede. Upon indulging, he accidentally kills Joan, takes orders from his typewriter-turned-cockroach, ends up in a constantly mutating Mediterranean city and learns that his hip friends have published his work -- which he doesn't remember writing.
Naked Lunch has since become a cult film, acclaimed for its surrealistic visual and thematic elements.
Its a crazy movie. A must see film.
