LeftSideCut (3778 KP) rated Child's Play (1988) in Movies

A pinnacle of absurd 80's horror
The original Child's Play is a hugely enjoyable slice of 80s horror. It's so silly, that it easy to see how the movie, and it's villain Chucky, have earned their place amongst horror royalty.
The low budget is stepped around pretty effectively, with lots of first person shots from Chucky's perspective, building up to the inevitable reveal, where we properly see Chucky in all his glory, swearing and stabbing his way through the rest of the movie.
It's over the top, silly, violent, and the acting throughout is pretty hammy, but it all works pretty well.

Rolling Stone's 480th greatest album of all time
This is Raekwon's, real name Raemond Kwon (joke), debut solo album on a brief break from WuTang Klan. I like my hip hop with a good amount of focus on the actual music, and for me this was somewhat missing throughout the album. This means the album is more of a collection of shouts over basic drum beats. Add to this the frequent interludes of people arguing and swearing at each other (seriously how and why do they record these interludes?!) it makes the album a little boring and samey.

Meh
The original movie was a real guilty pleasure. Dark, twisted, funny and something very different from the million other saccharine and sentimental Christmas movies out there. The sequel is unfortunately very disappointing, it seems to think just consistently swearing is an acceptable substitute for actual humour . The writing is very weak and none of the actors look like they want to be there. It feels like a contractual obligation and a waste of talented actors like Billy Bob Thornton and Kathy Bates. The delightfully weird sandwich obsessed Thurman Murman does provide a bit of amusement and a few callbacks to the superior original but overall this is a poor sequel.

It was a great read that I didn't want to put down. The tale of Joe is an imaginative one and you want to keep reading to find out what is going to happen between he and Beck next. Lots of swearing and sex scenes so it is not suitable at all for younger audiences. It is a thrilling view of what people may really be thinking about in the real world without you knowing about it.

So as basic as the writing was this book was pretty good. Not the best but not horrible.
The only thing that threw me off was the main character.
I'm not a big fan of characters who constantly contradict themselves. Like one minute the main character was like "I'm swearing off men and im staying away from the guys who i find attractive." and the next shes like "oh i hope hes still interested in me."
Another flaw in the books was the lack of relationship depth.
Sure you can see the connection but it really didn't play out well enough to have me root for them.
All in all this book gets 3 stars.

Freddy Krueger and a topographical map of Utah
My 11 year old son is so chuffed that im letting him see this - his friend has an older brother so often gets to see 15 certificates. But nobody has seen Deadpool yet in his circle so he’ll deffo get some Kudos of his own.
I know that the violence and swearing won’t offend/inspire/distress him to copy anything.
Unless he learns to reheal and shoot like Mr Pool.

How Lisa was treated after her stroke (1 more)
The use of the ‘n’ word
I could not finish this story
I checked it out from the library on a whim.I hated this, I got to the point where I didn’t want to see if the book redeemed itself.
I’m sure other people will like it, I’m just overly sensitive about such things.
There also was a lot of swearing, almost to the point of being off putting, but I am willing to look past that, just not the racism and the way Lisa’s family treated her after her stroke.. if it wasn’t a library book, I would have turned that book into a junk journal.

80s wants their movie back
This movie had a 1980s coming of age movie. At least in the 80s they would not just stopped at kids swearing but throw in some topples shots as well. Dont forget i am Gen X and i grew up on 80s movies.
The movie had potential but they never tapped in to it. The acting over all was great, well it was good. I found the kid's acting was great but the adults in the movie it was ok and not movie quality acting. After seeing this movie do yourself a favor and pick up some coming of age movies from 80s to early 90s and you might see where i am coming from.

This manga is really growing on me! I liked how the five of them went from hardly knowing each other to being quite good friends simply from going on a "bonding" trip through a school program. It was nice reading them become friends and how getting lost in the woods made them closer. *chuckles* Oh and the bonding over a sunrise was sweet.
I'm still holding out for our main guy and gal getting together, they've certainly grown closer. Though that last page had me almost swearing. I wish I had time to start #3 but I have to go to work in the half hour so it will have to wait till later or tomorrow.
I love the art and the slow arcing storyline. Bring on book #3.

I love these guys, but the vulgarity is a bit much at times
I've been listening to the Bad Christian Podcast since the first episode. I was a big fan of the band Emery, and two of the hosts are members of that band, while the third is a pastor.
These guys are funny and entertaining and their guests and topics - usually centered on religion, but not always - are timely and interesting. But... through the process of "deconstructing" their faith, they have gone sharply vulgar, and it frequently makes me want to stop listening. I haven't stopped yet, but the temptation is there.
If you can handle "blue" humor and lots of swearing, there's a lot to enjoy here. And if you like emo or screamo music, I definitely suggest listening to Emery.
