Absolutely gripping and a great start to what I imagine is going to be an excellent new detective series and with a narrator that absolutely nailed it!
Excellent story, gripping plot, brilliant characters, perfect setting, a pace that is spot on with oodles of tension and a narrator that only adds to the suspense.
Definitely recommended and I very much look forward to following this series and thank you to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for enabling me to listen to and share my thoughts of The Girls on Chalk Hill.

This was a frustrating, yet very enjoyable read. I kept asking myself why on Earth these women were going on such a technical walk on their own. But let’s face it - this was all a huge part of the tension. Would they survive? I mean, everything is against them: from their lack of experience, to the weather.
I really think they should have stuck to their original plan of a beach holiday.
But boy did I enjoy this! The twists and turns made for an addictive, unputdownable read!

I'm seeing some Spielbergisms in these movies so far as it seems like he must've used some ideas or themes when starting out like in Jaws. Once you show the monster, it's hard to put jack back in the box.
Unlike the original film, you see too much of the creature right away to build tension or think of him as menacing. This time around different scientists go back to the lagoon and capture the creature and bring him back to civilization. His new home is a large public aquarium where he instantly becomes the new star attraction. While chained to the tank floor he wows the spectators, defends himself against the nosy scientists and attempts escape. This sequence also felt like the 3rd act of The Lost World where the dinosaurs made it to land and terrorized the suburbs.
He eventually escapes and follows the main scientist and his girlfriend whilst they try and have a romantic time out to sea together. The last half of the film feels like you are watching From Here To Eternity with an occasional creature showing up every once in a while.
The tension just wasn't there in this one. A disappointment,

Great cast (2 more)
Great locations
Some good action scenes at the start
Starts with a bang, ends with a whimper
I saw the trailer for this and it got a good review in the TV guide, so it seemed worth while. The first few episodes were great a good mix of action, drama and tension with some raunchyness thrown in. The 2nd half went down hill rather quickly featuring mainly on a few of the characters and one main storyline. It had great potential but ended up being a bit 50/50.

I am embarrassed to say that I have never read anything by Joe Hart before ... well, after this, I won't make the same mistake again and I am so pleased that I took a punt and requested a copy via www.netgalley.com and am grateful that the publisher, Thomas & Mercer, sent me a copy in return for an honest review.
I liked everything about it ... the story, the pace and style of writing, the sense of tension that grows in intensity, the characters, etc, etc ... it was great.
My full review can be found at http://haziegaze.blogspot.co.uk/

Great read until the ending
I didn't really know anything about this book, having picked it from the Richard & Judy book club list, but I was pleasantly surprised.
It starts off well, lots of tension and suspense and some interesting flawed charscyers. It has you questioning all of the characters motives to figure out "whodunnit". My issue is that this was dragged out for far too long and that by the time you got to the ending, it was all a little too predictable. Good writing though and i would definitely read any more books by Shari Lapena.

Thoroughly enjoyed this, it was lovely to relive that 80’s movie vibe. If you enjoy ‘Stranger Things’ then you may enjoy this too, although the storyline is nowhere near as in depth as ‘Stranger Things.’
Well acted, the film takes things slowly but tension soon mounts, and ultimately leads to tragedy, and a very dark ending. I’m pleased the ending wasn’t a cop out, as this makes a refreshing change in this genre of movie.
More thriller than horror, it makes a change to watch something that’s obviously had a lot of thought and passion go into it. Well worth a watch.
