A Hundred Lies is a historical romance with a supernatural twist. Rosalie has made a living from gathering information and reading body language to portray herself as a fortune-teller. Unfortunately for her, a Lady with no scruples has decided she knows too much and wants to silence her. This leads to Rosie and her family travelling to Scotland to try to escape.

The amount of detail and research in this book is amazing, leading to a rich comprehensive story. The characters are all well-described, even if you don't like them! This book is part of The Hundred Kisses series but it can be read as a standalone as I did. The only downside to that is that I now want to read the others too. 😁

I thoroughly enjoyed every word of this novel and thought the ending was superb, tying everything up nicely. If you like your romances to have a twist, then I can absolutely recommend this one!

The game is not totally terrible. I found the concept interesting and being set in 1918 London during the influenza epidemic and World War I made for an interesting setting. I really wished that there was fast travel in the game because walking back and forth between neighborhoods for quests and gathering information could be really tedious. I also felt that the game was hindered by the lack of a manual save because sometimes conversations would go wrong if you picked the wrong choice with an NPC and you would lose the clue forever and there's no way to redo it unless you want to start the entire game over again. I truly don't understand why that decision was made by the game developers and it could be really frustrating to use a conversation hint and not be able to have a redo. The combat isn't bad, figuring out what vampire abilities worked best for each fight was intriguing, but it wasn't too challenging which I liked. The story is good, but not great because there were some unanswered questions and some plot holes leaving more questions. Spring Brings Another Murder to Rudolph
Spring in Rudolph, New York, American’s Christmas town, is usually a little show, which means it is the perfect time for Merry Wilkinson’s friends Vicki and Mark to plan their wedding. They’ve even managed to buy the Cole House to move into, but only because it needs a lot of work. However, things aren’t going well at the house since the couple are hearing strange noises in the night. Then, when Merry is visiting, the trio find a dead body. With Mark under suspicion, Merry starts gathering clues. Can she figure out what happened?

Normally, I enjoy this series, but this entry didn’t work for me. The story was too slow to get going. While things did pick up once we found the body, including giving us some great suspects, it wasn’t satisfying. Having said that, my questions were answered at the end. Since this is set in spring, it didn’t have quite the usual Christmas cheer, but I think that’s on me more than anything. The series regulars were still fantastic, and I did enjoy getting to see them again. And we got three recipes that Vicki has been working on for her cookbook. Fans of the series will be happy to check in on the characters, but everyone else can pass this one by.

For a little background as to why I wanted to read this book about the Austin Yogurt Shop Murders: when I started my first food service job in 2004, my boss had posted this story on the back door, to insure everyone always locked it. In 1991, when Austin wasn't so big and things like murder weren't really a thing, four girls were murdered and burned while working in a Yogurt Shop in West Austin. This book covers it and does a really good job at gathering information. I got a hold of a copy that had been last updated in 2017. This case is still a cold case, which is terrible. A few of the guys that 'confessed' were sent to jail for a little bit, but were released because those confessions were found to be false, and DNA results proved the guys weren't even there. And, now one of those guys is dead, shot by police a few years ago. Now the crime isn't really common knowledge as it was, but it still resonates.
The story on the back door really did the trick, that back door to the restaurant I worked at was always locked when I was there.
