The Good Doctor
2017 | Drama
Freddie's portrayal of autism is convincing and the miscommunication, meltdowns, and sensory overload are true to life. (3 more)
Pretty good representation among the staff and patients of the hospital. The show brings up many important topics through the medical cases and family situations of characters.
Seems to further awareness, acceptance of and interest in autism and autistic individuals.
Writers of show didn't shy away from some uncomfortable topics and behaviors around autism, even showcasing that Shawn's autism isn't always a gift and isn't always well-recieved.
Yet another young genius white boy as the face of autism, media completely underrepresents the female, learning disabled, older, or POC autistics out there. (3 more)
Shawn's friends and colleagues interfere in his life far more than they need to or should. They do not treat him like an adult or give him autonomy he deserves.
Shawn's autism symptoms seldom manifest at inconvenient times, and the few major outbursts that do occur are laughed off and rarely result in consequences.
They did not cast an autistic actor, who could have leant more authenticity to the role and been a real role model for autistic kids.
Good medical drama- lacking some realism

Everybody's All American follows a 25 year span in life of a college star football player who goes on to the NFL. The movie starts off in the senior year at LSU for Gavin "Ghost" Grey and follows him through many life events culminating in a 25 year celebration of that teams championship run.

The message as indicated by synopsis and trailer is that the love of the two main characters conquers all and guides their decision making throughout their lives. That isn't the case at all. At times there is some decision making that is decidedly outside of their relationship altogether, when it comes to business and other things.

The cast was good. Dennis Quaid is always a charmer. Jessica Lange did a good job, as well. John Goodman was exceptional is his role, though his role wasn't a needed addition to the film in my opinion. What was achieved by his characters presence could have been done much more effectively. Timothy Sutton did not disappoint, though I personally forbid him from ever wearing a mustache again.

Anywho. Weird little film. Not as sports related as it would lead you to believe.

Now, this was the first book I have read by Karin Slaughter and it was also a very enjoyable experience.
first I will say that The Good Daughter was totally different to what I was expecting but this was so not a bad thing for me.
I'm a sucker for a good psychological thriller, but I also love the drama that comes with a good ole family saga, This story brilliantly combined these two elements giving us an insight into the fallout that comes when horrific tragedy strikes an ordinary family and how these dynamics can spiral, taking on a life of their own through miscommunication and prideful behaviour.
The outcome of this incident echoing down the unfolding decades.
This story describes the events that occur to the Quinn family, resulting in a death and two young teenagers with scars both physically and figuratively for life.
Samantha and Charlotte's lives are about to come full circle when events in their home town bring them along with their father together again.
This was a very easy read, that kept you guessing until the end, the graphic descriptions both pulled you in while equally repelling you with the realness behind the visuals provided.
I'm not easily grossed out but MAN!!! it was way EWW!!! in places.
So, in conclusion, I would definitely give The Good Daughter a big thumbs up, a very intriguing read.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced reader copy it was thoroughly devoured by me, this is my own personal opinion of this book.

Good fun
All good fun and I found myself chuckling on occasion. With Jason Sudeikis starring I knew there'd be some bawdy humour, as evidenced by the showing of a swollen testicle and one of the other characters referring to her sex life as "throwing a hotdog down a hallway". I don't particularly like that puerile stuff but putting it aside this film was entertaining enough as we watch 4 acquaintances become a pretend family who then develop a warmth and love for each other, all the while trying to transport marijuana in an RV from Mexico to America whilst being pursued by a drug boss. It's not cerebral in anyway so just an easy watch.
