Beckie Shelton (40 KP) rated Broken Dolls in Books
Feb 8, 2018
This was a dark disturbing read that I was glued to from the beginning, two broken souls that come together and don't fix each other more sooth and adhere themselves as a coping mechanism, don't know if I would call this love more a connecting of brokenness. Mia is a tragic, scared, vulnerable figure and Brian sees a kindred spirit in her, an extension of himself, protecting Mia eases his own demons and with a matching set of scars Brian puts himself in the role of Mia's protector. I never thought I would see Brian in any redeemable light but I do, don't get me wrong the man is still wired wrong a complete sadist but with mia he becomes so much more as well. A very dark thought provoking read loved it.

"I think I can live without you, but it won't be any kind of life"
I am not a patient kinda person. As much as I really loved the whole back and forwardness, and as much as I know it was very much needed as it was a giant part of the story, I found myself wanting to know what would happen noooow! I hated Neal at the beginning of this book I thought he was a giant self centered you know what. By the end of this book I love him, and I now how reading their story made me come to that conclusion.I disliked Georgie too more often than not,but at the end I loved her. Thought provoking and just wonderful, yet another magical book from Rainbow Rowell.

Thought provoking lyrics
Lost classic
This artist came to my attention late in my life and I missed them at their peak. This seemed to be to issue with the band and with this album. There was a buzz from critics but this didn't reflect on sales. A loose part of the UK shoegaze scene that used guitar effects to create ethereal and sonic soundscapes Kitchens of Distinction may have been too mellow and introspective in their lyrics, this is not to say that the lyrics are not tight provoking as they still hold up to modern ears. This album saw them at their finest with songs like Railwayed, Quick as Rainbows and Drive that Fast being the picks with these being played on college radio during the early 90s.
Overall this album is worth a visit as it deserves to be in more lives and has aged well in parts

Great story and plot (1 more)
Unique combination of emotion and science
Almost too close for comfort
The first book in one of my favourite trilogy's. I love this series and its ability to make short jumps in scientific advancement from where we are currently to the potential of what we might become. The scientific basis of this series brings up very modern issues regarding ethics regarding both human and non-human life. A series that makes you reflect on decisions you make as an individual and as a human existing on earth. Thought provoking, never shying away from 'taboo' subjects

Awix (3310 KP) rated After Life (Wandafaru Raifu) (1998) in Movies
May 14, 2019 (Updated May 15, 2019)
Curious, gentle comedy-drama fantasy. Newly-dead entrants to the next world must choose their most important memory, as this is all they will take with them into eternity. Those who cannot make the choice remain in limbo, helping those who can (it's a bit like the civil service).
Big themes, obviously, but handled with a very light, naturalistic touch; the machinery of the afterlife has a charmingly shambolic feel to it. Initially seems like a series of quiet character studies, before an understatedly moving story develops between two of the staff. Thought-provoking and rather beautiful.

Amazing Show
This is an amazing show because of the wonderful representation with having LGBTQ people in the show telling their characters' stories so beautifully and the story is not only incredible, it's important showing everything that we go through every day and bringing forth some powerful emotions to tell a thoughtful story. The sets and costumes are amazing as well and every minute of each episode is incredible. The second season of the show premiered recently and it is fantastic because of the great cast and the thought provoking storytelling.

Thought provoking and sometimes scary as hell!
I love this podcast. Paranormal investigators, Dave and Tim talk over all topics from ghost to aliens, cryptids and everything in between. Weekly they do a Supernatural News and Parashare episode that is one of the highlights of my podcast feed. Other episodes are very topic driven and guest driven. Make sure you give it at least 3 episodes to decide if you like it or not.

Quite possibly my favourite film of all time
I love this film. While it is slightly dated, and bears next to no resemblance to the Richard Bachman book on which it was based, it is such a fun, action-packed and surprisingly thought-provoking film. The use of convicts in light entertainment is a subject that has been explored elsewhere in the media (Black Mirror for one) but for me this nails my vision of what we'll be watching in future - it isn't that far from Love Island, just with less willing contestants and slightly more fighting.

Terrible ending
So this started out interesting, and had it's funny points. Some parts got fairly slow by the middle of the film, but it was still entertaining. However, the last 30 -45 minutes were pretty bad. The ending was horrible- it just stops, like the main part of the ending was left on the cutting room floor, or the writers just gave up on trying. I would recommend watching it just to entertain the idea of downsizing. It made for a good thought provoking conversation afterwards.
