Thought-provoking and always-changing questions (3 more)
Customizable to your priorities and things you want to improve upon
Niche communities to join
Safe and free of creeps and unwanted interactions
A safe space for deep thoughts
Longwalks has been my favorite non-traditional social media apps I've found (though I'd hardly call it social.media - the focus isn't on your profile/profile picture etc.). Check in every day to keep a streak going, answer sometimes silly/sometimes serious prompts about your life (choose to keep your answers private, post anonymously, or publicly), and get bonus insightful questions when you join groups relevant to you. I've yet to have an uncomfortable or negative interaction and the vulnerability of everyone's answers is beautiful.

Poignant, humanising a politician
Listening to Joe Biden's frank and open memoir dealing with his son's cancer and bereavement is heartfelt, especially as it is read by himself.
Unlike most books by politicians, "Promise Me, Dad" is committed to communicating to us the values and principles of a family man who happens to have been a senior member of government.
His most compelling narration comes in the form of him discussing his hopes, fears, dreams and nightmares through which a family succumbs while dealing with cancer. I became emotional listening to him break down while discussing the death of his son - his voice audibly trembles which is why the audiobook gives a whole new depth to the biography.
Warm, insightful and thought-provoking.

This was the second time I have read [Soft Apocalypse] by [Will McIntosh]. It was as good the second time. Now I usually do not read books twice because there are way too many books I want to read but since this is set in Savannah where I moved in July I figured I would read it again.
The idea that society collapses due to economics is not too far fetched. The eco terrorism may be a little harder to buy but still well within the realm of possibility. The message that as human we have good and bad but really never give up is a prevalent theme in this story. I recommend it to anyone looking for a thought provoking read.

Well written dialogue (1 more)
Great performances
Not What I Expected
This movie surprised me in a good way. If you are a fan of movies like the Conjuring and Insidious and that is the sort of tone and style that you are expecting from this, then you will probably be disappointed. This movie is so much more than that. I don't think I've seen tension done this well in a horror scenario since 10 Cloverfield Lane last year. The performances are solid all around and we are given a good amount of context for the drastic decisions that we see certain characters make. This movie is chilling and thought provoking and is probably more creepy than it is scary, but it is still most definitely worth a watch.

So much potential...
I will admit to being in the minority of those who enjoyed Prometheus. Flawed? Yep. But at least it was trying something new and wasn't a strict retread of Alien. It offered some thought-provoking ideas, great performances, amazing visuals and some genuine sci-fi terror.
Then comes Covenant. The shame is that instead of it being Prometheus 2 it became Alien 5, offering nothing new to the table.
Some of the performances are great, particularly Michael Fassbender (nothing new) but the characters make stupid decisions, the story is built on too many coincidences and it all feels like something you've already seen and seen done better.

This is a collection of short stories that follow various people who are not where they started out. They are immigrants, eccentrics and those who really don't want to be where they are. Themes include loss, isolation/ loneliness and difference.
Stories that particularly stood out for me, were the story about a girl who loses her leg, the elderly woman trying to escaper her old people's home if only she could remember what she's supposed to be doing, and the woman who goes to see a 'Sheikh' for family relationship advice.
All of the stories made me stop and think - mainly about what I would have done in their circumstances. Very thought provoking.
This was another book read on 'The Pigeonhole' social reading platform.
