No Country for Old Men (2007)
No Country for Old Men (2007)
2007 | Thriller, Western

"I think… No Country For Old Men. It was my introduction to Javier Bardem, and I think he is such a powerhouse on screen, but that performance, specifically, just kind of blew my mind completely, and it’s such an incredible thriller. It’s a film where not a huge amount happens. You could call it an action film, I suppose, but without — there’s not masses and masses of explosions. It’s a quite simple piece of storytelling, but it’s so beautifully done. And the Coen brothers [Ethan and Joel] did it. So I definitely say that."

The Conversation (1974)
1974 | Drama, Mystery

"This is such a complete technical movie about such a simple idea done so beautifully. It’s a thriller with very few elements and it’s a deconstruction and pure poetry. The sum of the parts is more than each of the parts individually and it’s so simple, yet the pieces together blows your mind. It also places a big emphasis on shooting because every shot means something, not one shot is wasted. I strive to do that. I think it’s very important that every shot has to have a meaning."

High and Low (1963)
High and Low (1963)
1963 | Drama, Mystery, Thriller

"High and Low is my personal favorite Kurosawa movie. I love everything about it: the chamber piece of the first half, the sprawling police hunt that follows, the fact that Toshiro Mifune’s character is so committed to making high-quality women’s shoes. And there are so many great moments throughout: the pink smoke, the train sequence, the amazing ending scene. I find it so stunning and effective, and I love the way the film gets at themes of class and social inequality in the form of such an exciting procedural crime thriller."

Action Sequences
So finally got round to one of the most talked about shows of last year.I was expecting good things from it as it was from the same guy who created one of my favourite shows line of duty and it didn't disappoint.

A really taunt twisty thriller that had some great acting from richard madden and keeley hawes and some explosive action scenes. You could say the storyline wasnt anything highly original but it kept you guessing right till the very end.

Hopefully there will be a series 2 some time soon.

Exhilarating
Pace. This book has it, the most brilliant, non stop, don't put the book down pace. Despite finding WW2 fascinating I never thought of liking a spy thriller set then but actually it worked incredibly. Imagine being an enemy in an evil fascist state full of vile nazis and corruption, it is tense from start to finish, never letting up easing off. It will have your heart racing and reading just one more chapter every time. Extraordinarily exhilarating, Hitlers Secret is better than Bond.
