A different Horror trip
I've been wanting to see this for quite a while, so glad it showed up on Netflix and appears to be made by them as well.
It's definitely one that likes to build on tension and how the characters react to their surroundings. More in common with the Descent than Blair Witch for me, which is a good thing. The ending was a bit abrupt but it least it gave some explanation of what was going on. Top marks for being a bit different to most horror films relying on jump scares.

I really enjoyed this one, but it seemed to have flown under the radar upon it's release.

It wasn't at the cinema long, I missed it and only spotted it on Netflix last week.

Gods and Monsters (1998)
Gods and Monsters (1998)
1998 | Drama
McKellen teamed up with director Bill Condon in 1998 for Gods & Monsters. This period drama recounts the partly fictionalised last days of the life of film director James Whale, whose experience of war in the First World War is a central theme.

Although criticised for being overly-simplistic, McKellen’s performance received rave reviews, and he was nominated for his first Academy Award in the Best Actor category. Unfortunately, he didn’t go on to win this time around, but it remained a highlight in a career filled with fabulous work.

Sex and the City (2008)
Sex and the City (2008)
2008 | Comedy, Romance
It’s hard to look at Sex & The City now and not see four women who absolutely hated each other, but the first film in the series was actually pretty good. The less said about Sex and the City 2 the better. Although Carrie’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) wedding plans don’t go quite as she would have imagined them, the lead up to the ceremony itself is a reason to give this flick a watch. The fashion, the cast and Carrie’s almighty dress is pure American wedding excellence.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)
The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)
1997 | Adventure, Sci-Fi
Spielberg has said on record many times that taking this job was one of the worst decisions of his career. He shouldn’t be so hard on himself though as for the most part, The Lost World is great fun.

The characters are fleshed out more and the special effects are once again top-notch but there’s a spark from the first film that’s notable by its absence. Things pick up through the much-maligned finale in San Diego but the franchise began to take a tumble only halted 18 years later…

This film does exactly as it sets out to do. It's a pure over the top adrenalin rush almost from start to finish. Babes, bullets, blood, bad-ass characters and a Dodge charger. Think Crank meets Shoot 'em up with an almost comic book setting. I really enjoyed and found it an action packed film, that's tongue firmly in cheek. Add a cool car and the sexy Amber Heard and you get good popcorn entertainment, would have liked to have seen it in 3D! If you like wild wacky films that are just fun to watch check this out!

One of my favorite book series
This book series is so under-rated! It's got a great story line and is an all around great young adult read. Just a little background, a girl gets moved from Illinois to Georgia because her dad got a better job. On top of not knowing many people, weird things start happening to her she then gets help from a lady in town to use her new gift. When she teams up with a few kids from school they become a great team in helping the lost souls in her historic new town.

Scythe: The Kotaku Review
It’s not every day you get to rampage through the 1920s countryside in control of a fleet of giant mechs.

Scythe is a new board game from Stonemaier Games. If the art up top (which is on the front of the game’s box) looks familiar, that’s because the entire game is based on a universe imagined by artist Jakub Rozalski, which we featured on Fine Art a few years back and which is now also getting a video game.

When Garth Carson finds a squirrel puppet from a favorite childhood show, he thinks he's found a nostalgic goldmine. Instead, he soon finds a body and a conspiracy that seems too hard to believe. In fact, that was one problem I had with the book, I just couldn't believe it. The characters were also too thin. And the "comic" part of the comic caper? Not really that funny. I did find the climax over the top yet fun, however.

Jaine usually gets along well with her neighbors, but no one gets along well with Cryptessa Muldoon the star of an old one season sitcom. But when someone kills Cryptessa during a Halloween party while wearing Jaine's costume, she leaps to the top of the suspect list. Can she clear her name? As always, this is a fun and funny mystery. I was laughing at some of the sub-plots while wondering what secret and twist Jaine would uncover next.
