Shaun Collins (3 KP) rated Lethbridge-Stewart: The Showstoppers (#6) in Books
Jan 12, 2018
Full gushing review can be found at www.travelingthevortex.com
So far the Lethbridge-Stewart series has come in two varieties; good, and stellar. This is one of the later.
The plot is well written with a series of adventures that culminate quite satisfactorily, character development is top drawer, the action is well done, and above all else, it's a hell of a lot of fun to read. This book trucks from beginning to end without a lull in sight. If you've been following along with the Lethbridge-Stewart line, nudge this one higher on your to do list, you'll thank me for it.

Erika (17789 KP) rated Penelope (2006) in Movies

I have a lot of favorite movies, often when I describe a movie, if I loved it, I describe it as my favorite. My friend pointed that out a few years ago when I was telling her about this movie, and it made me think.
This movie is legitimately one of my top ten favorite movies.
Penelope is a modern, cute fairy tale about Penelope, who happens to have a pig nose because of a curse.
This movie has a ton of random actors in it: Christina Ricci is the title character. Youngish James McAvoy (<3), Reese Witherspoon, and Peter Dinklage.

Brilliantly written (1 more)
Twisted and dark
Deliciously dark and macabre
While this is not my usually fantasy book to pick up, I found myself being drawn into the nightmare unable to look away. The characters, while not very likeable, are interesting, and you do care where their story will end. It's been compared to Goremenghast, which I haven't read so can't compare, but it is well written. It's gothic steampunk, grim, dark fantasy, melancholic tragedy with horror sprinkled on top. I loved it and felt sad I'd finished it, but couldn't wait to get the next in the series.
graveyardgremlin (7194 KP) rated A Spy in the House (The Agency, #1) in Books
Feb 15, 2019
In the words of Y. S. Lee:
<blockquote>"Women's choices were grim in those days, even for the clever. If a top secret women's detective agency existed in Victorian England, it left no evidence--just as well, since that would cast serious doubt on its competence. The Agency is a totally unrealistic, completely fictitious antidote to the fate that would otherwise swallow a girl like Mary Quinn."</blockquote>
An easy and interesting read, with an intriguing protagonist in Mary Quinn. The plot and characters easily kept my attention and I look forward to the others in the series.

I read the first four a while back and went straight out as I was sucked in by the writing and I just wanted more!!
I have just read the fifth about 1 month ago.
I love how she is a weird kid, with weird 'powers' but I also love how she becomes her own women and struggles through it and comes out on top. All five books are fantastic and I cant wait for the 6th final book to come out just to see if true love really can conquer all in the face of adversity.

Invaluable to running my store
I have been using this app ever since i opened my etsy store last year.
It has helped me to keep on top of orders, easily view upcoming dispatch dates and quickly view what funds are available for transfer.
The app is updated regularly and additional features are added. However, the kerching sound that is supposed to happen when an order comes through has been missing for some time following a previous update.

A different Horror trip
I've been wanting to see this for quite a while, so glad it showed up on Netflix and appears to be made by them as well.
It's definitely one that likes to build on tension and how the characters react to their surroundings. More in common with the Descent than Blair Witch for me, which is a good thing. The ending was a bit abrupt but it least it gave some explanation of what was going on. Top marks for being a bit different to most horror films relying on jump scares.

Movie Metropolis (309 KP) rated Gods and Monsters (1998) in Movies
Jun 10, 2019
McKellen teamed up with director Bill Condon in 1998 for Gods & Monsters. This period drama recounts the partly fictionalised last days of the life of film director James Whale, whose experience of war in the First World War is a central theme.
Although criticised for being overly-simplistic, McKellen’s performance received rave reviews, and he was nominated for his first Academy Award in the Best Actor category. Unfortunately, he didn’t go on to win this time around, but it remained a highlight in a career filled with fabulous work.

Movie Metropolis (309 KP) rated Sex and the City (2008) in Movies
Jun 10, 2019
It’s hard to look at Sex & The City now and not see four women who absolutely hated each other, but the first film in the series was actually pretty good. The less said about Sex and the City 2 the better. Although Carrie’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) wedding plans don’t go quite as she would have imagined them, the lead up to the ceremony itself is a reason to give this flick a watch. The fashion, the cast and Carrie’s almighty dress is pure American wedding excellence.
