Alison Pink (7 KP) rated The Kneebone Boy in Books
Jan 15, 2018
What a fantastic little book! I will admit that it took me a few chapters to be hooked in, hence the 4 stars, but once it got going it was a great read. It is definitely a middle grades book but it deals with some rather heady issues...mental illness, abandonment, self perception, confidence. The Hardscrabbles are fascinating characters with all the problems a normal family deals with...even if they do deal with them Ina rather over the top way. I will admit I was surprised by the ending. I can usually figure books like this out and to my delight there were a few surprises in there. Worth the read for sure.

Beautiful location (2 more)
Good Sfx
The Cgi for the Shark was great
A decent Shark thriller
A good film with a battle of wits and survival. The Beach location is beautiful, shot at Lord Howe Island off the coast of Australia, and the Sfx were good in most scenes. I was impressed with the Cgi for the Shark, it looked more realistic than many other Shark films over the past 20 years. It is one big mean Shark, although some of the action scenes are a bit over the top. Overall a good film for a simple premise. On the DVD you get extras on Shark attacks, the location for the Beach scenes, and how they designed the Shark.

Suswatibasu (1703 KP) rated The Man Who Knew Infinity (2016) in Movies

Slightly over dramatised
The original story behind Srinivasa Ramanujan is remarkable enough without resorting to such theatrics. These films, as much as they are historically important especially for those with a similar background, tend to be slightly over the top. Ramanujan is one of the most significant mathematicians of our time, even more extraordinary is that he achieved success as a fellow at Cambridge despite being an Indian during wartime. Dev Patel hasn't quite reached his peak acting phase in this film, not like he did in Lion. He seemed to be a replica of his role in Slumdog Millionaire, a weepy, mopey kind of character. It's a vital film, but they could have done it better.

Haley Mathiot (9 KP) rated Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World in Books
Apr 27, 2018
I didn't finish this book. I found Deep Work very redundant and obvious. Yes, it is clear we have a problem in our society of being able to focus. Anyone who works with or has their own kids will be able to tell you that, and how it’s related to technology. I’m happy you’ve done some research to back it up, but I found the book very dry.
Not only that, the kinds of people who will be reading (or listening) to this genre is already totaly aware of the problem, so again, I found it redundant. Not only that, the book itself was very dry and dull to listen to. Sadly it’s not on my top list.

b.Young (97 KP) rated Creeker by Ryan Upchurch in Music

One great song after another!!!
Ryan Upchurch is a Rap Country artist with amazing talent!
He can literally perform every genre. While typically known for his Rap Country hits, he decided to branch out and explore the Grunge/Rock genre and has turned the genre on it's ear.
This album dropped 4/20/2018 and, in less than an hour, was sitting pretty at #3 on the US iTunes Rock charts!
Within 3 days, it was sitting in the Top 10 iTunes Rock charts in Australia and Canada.
As of last week, it was Trending in iTunes at #3, whilst Cardi B sat at #7.
Everyone needs to check this guy out!

Lou Grande (148 KP) rated Coming Out On Top in Video Games
May 15, 2018
Exclusively Gay Romance (3 more)
Good Character Art
HIgh Replay Value
Multiple Story Arcs
The Daddy of Gay Visual Novels
Coming Out on Top is a visual novel about Mark Matthews (who's kind of a weenie), college senior, newly out of the closet. Guide him through his last semester of school and through various sexual misadventures. There are several characters you can develop a "romance" with, and the storylines are not always obvious. You have to learn the characters motives to get them to like you. Other times, it feels more random. However, there is a good variety of characters for you to meet and romance.
(And the art is pretty sexy. Something for everyone, I think.)

Becca Major (96 KP) rated Habitica in Apps
Apr 12, 2018
Ability to keep player engaged (4 more)
Lots of cute pets/mounts
Cute and entertaining quests
Tavern Chat to hide from your dailies, or to ask questions
Parties and Challenges
Server delays (1 more)
I wish the app were as user friendly as the website. It usually takes a few extra minutes.
Great way to Level Up!
Habitica is great at keeping a player/person on top of their To-Do List. Completing tasks awards you experience points and gold. There's a rush to hearing that level up ding, and getting to buy new armor or new quests is very entertaining.
In terms of apps that help me stay on track and actually get stuff done, Habitica does it best.

Great film, better when it came out
Well acted, well directed, well shot and well written. The story itself leaves a little to be desired as it is too singular. I say that knowing it qom the Osacr for best screenplay. And to restate, it was VERY well written, but if the war wasnt ai fresh, it would have never won the Oscar.
But, as a standalone piece, not tied to a specific war, its overall well done.

Red Otter (340 KP) rated Codenames in Tabletop Games
Jun 3, 2019
Codenames is one of my top party games as it's one of the few that doesn't lose its lustre over multiple plays. Unlike games like Cards against humanity, there's actual skill involved with its clue choices. Two teams face off with one member from each team acting as a clue giver. The cluegiver aka spy master tried to come up with a word that can relate to selected phrases in a 5x5 grid. First team to guess all of its card wins. There definitely can be a skill difference between cluegivers, but the mind games of tryung to guess what your team will associate with your clue can result in hilarious moments.

Maris (8 KP) rated The Cruel Prince in Books
Jun 10, 2019
Absolutely stunning! magical, mystical creatures, and a dark truth. I loved this story and is one of my top favorite reads of 2018.
Are main character Jude is a mortal living in the Fey world with her twin sister. They are bullied from other creatures. Holy Black did a wonderful job writing this story were I could visualize the whole story in my head like a movie.
This lovely gem is such a dark, twisted story that the ending had me shocked. I can not wait for the second book as I need to have more from this story.
