Back in the early 90s (round about '91 or so, so pre Special Editions), Timothy Zahn released a new Star Wars novel - Heir to the Empire - that would both become the first in a trilogy, and the first in the Star Wars expanded universe (EU) series as a whole.

The main antagonist of those stories was Grand Admiral Thrawn, a brilliant strategist who believed that a species art held the their weakness. Indeed, the novels were also the first to ever name the capitol of the Empire and the Old Republic ('Coruscant').

By the end of the trilogy, Thrawn was defeated and assassinated. Or was he?

This novel was first released in the mid 90's, round about the time of the Special Editions, and before the first of the Prequel trilogy. Set 10 years after the events of The Last Command, this also sees the return of certain characters from Zahn's previous entries in the Star Wars canon, but (I felt) was not quite as entertaining a read.

This is the third book in the trilogy with Sea Sick and Ravage being the first two; although a trilogy, you don't need to read them all as they work equally well as standalone stories.

Savage is more than your typical zombie apocalypse story, it doesn't focus on the zombies and the usual eating-fest that accompanies such stories, it is more about the survivors and their quest to remain human both literally and figuratively.

I have to say that I enjoyed this trilogy and found Savage neatly finishes the series with satisfaction although not without some losses on the way! There aren't many books that make my eyes leak and I certainly didn't expect a horror/zombie book to do this but Savage did! I think it's because the author creates characters so well you get attached to them and when one of them is killed, it affects you ... well it did me anyway when one particular character met their end.

Well written, excellent characters, perfect setting, great pace and plenty of tension makes this a great read.

I was very impressed how they remade this series with the addition of a new cast. I like the tie in with Nimoy to show alternate universe. Its fun exciting and action filled. The Commendatory begins in this new trilogy of movies and so far has yet to disappoint

Even the action doesn’t help to pick up the pace, as it lacks the grandness and imagination found in the original trilogy.

I thought this could have delivered more. The whole book is really setting up the following 2 books as some characters join forces and prepare for a journey and others start to reveal the corruption rife throughout the empire. The trilogy is ultimately better for that though I think.

Too many plot lines, desperately needed some script editing, no regard for previous or next film. It did not have an ending, it felt more like the three part opener to a tv series. Lacked a cohesive flow both within the film and as the middle film of a trilogy.

I'm a huge Han Solo Harrison Ford fan, so was interested to see how this would be made without spoiling my love of Hans Solo. Honestly pleasantly surprised, characters esprecially Chewy were loveable and full of action, an enjoyable film links nicely into the original star wars trilogy.

For all of the hype it got, I expected more. It didn't draw me in and make me connect with the characters, but maybe that had more to do with the narrator than the story, then again, maybe not.

The story was interesting enough for me to continue the trilogy.

I really enjoyed this book a lot. It was a bit of a slow start, but after getting back into it some more, it was really intense and I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I'm excited to see what the last book of the trilogy holds now.
