Sleeping with the lights on at 30
Watched this again for the first time in years yesterday. Didn't seem half as scary when watching it with other people so didn't have to sleep with the light on this time (true story).
Sarah Michelle Gellar plays it well and some of the jumps and scares are brilliantly done. Raimi was going through a little horror spell with this and Drag me to Hell which also was pretty good, but did have a slightly more comedic tone than The Grudge.
Good supporting cast and well worth a watch, as its o e of the few American/Japanese updates that hasn't ruined the original story

Erika (17788 KP) rated Dirty John - Season 1 in TV

Dirty John was a great podcast, so obviously, they created a show. I watched the show prior to listening to the podcast, but I have seen a couple of true crime specials on the story, so it wasn't a new case.
My main thought was, damn, this broad is dumb af. What the hell was wrong with her? I've only seen Connie Britton in American Horror Story, and she was dumb in that too. Maybe it's her MO, not sure. It just caused me to shake my head... A LOT.
Eric Bana was sufficiently creepy and charming. He was the best part of the whole series, and gave the strongest performance.
Would I watch it again? Probably not, but it was entertaining while I was watching it.

Supisingly great heartwarming movie
This movie! This film! This story! I am so happy I watched this movie because it just left me feeling good. I thought this was going to be a traditionally moody Oscar ate movie, but it was not I do think it is an Oscar-worthy movie but it is not moody in my opinion it is empowering. The cast does a lovely job of telling this bold story in both true form and the fantastic animation. The scenes with the dolls are so well animated and very charming. It's ridiculous but not over the top. This film is an absolute masterpiece and I can't say anything else about it just go watch it and love it.

True to canon (2 more)
Detail
Nostalgic
An excellent novelisation of a classic game.
I thoroughly enjoyed S.D. Perry's 1st volume of her seven book Resident Evil series.
The book not only stayed true to the original game, and managed to not miss a single detail, but somehow goes into more detail without inventing her own non-canonical parts of the story.
The book brings a great sense of nostalgia, a throwback to the day you first played the game, and the most nostalgic part is Barry's famous "Jill sandwich" line, that Perry keeps intact.
My only criticism is the narration, the way the reader actually reads the book. Sometimes characters appear to be breaking the fourth wall, answering to the author, distracting you from the tension the author has just created.
All in all a good read!

Incredible True Crime story
This documentary was amazing. What starts as an investigation by keyboard warriors into the identity of a messed up individual who posts a video of extreme animal cruelty turns into a twisty true crime ride.
At only 3 episodes; unlike many recent documentaries shown on Netflix, this one didn't feel drawn out. We are saved from having to actually witness any of the horrors they saw in the online videos covered (although if you are sensitive to animal cruelty and violence they do describe what occurs in the videos which is devastatingly brutal.) The documentary is narrated to a large part by some real-life heroes on a quest and the emotion they felt really comes across.
I had no idea when I started watching this where it was going but it was a jaw-dropping experience.
