Denzel starts as the hard nosed veteran charged with training a rookie cop played by Ethan Hawke, many twists and turns of fate make it difficult to trust Alonzo who does nothing by the book and is totally unorthodox and sometimes very frightening. Westfield continues the journey of Max, Mandy, Chad, Georgia, and the kids. They encounter people who aren't the nicest and keep fighting to survive. Meanwhile Max's brother John and Cynthia learn more about themselves and trust both good and bad. It was a fast paced book and the ending left me hanging so the next one is in queue.
