"So much nuance but he always has clarity in all of his music. Kieran's at the top of his game. He's such an interesting producer. Everything he does has this clarity and it seems very simple. But it's not, he has such a highly sophisticated sense of what should go where. You feel like he really understands the world that he's created for himself and works in. So you just hear him having fun and placing things around and you inherently trust him with whatever he does. It's like a new journey every time. Honestly, what I say about Beautiful Rewind could probably be applied to a bunch of his records. That's the kind of thrilling thing with him. He's the master of his domain and it's exciting to hear him play inside of that sandbox. Such a fun record. Fun can mean a lot of different things and it hits you in a lot of different ways. But it's enjoyable to get into something steady, that's the pulse of his tracks that are dance orientated. The production of it and just the way that he thinks keeps your mind spinning. So it's always fun unpacking what he's presented."

"This film has one of the best endings I’ve ever seen, starting with the sword fight as remembered by the woodcutter. Up until this point, the fights have looked the way fights usually look in movies. But here, from the moment we see the samurai and bandit’s two sword tips enter the frame, trembling in their shaky hands, we’re in a much more believable world, where people are afraid to kill and be killed. And then there’s this conversation between the priest and the commoner: The priest: It’s horrifying. If men don’t trust each other, this earth might as well be hell. The commoner: That’s right. This world is hell. The priest: No, I believe in men. [Pressing himself against the wall in anguish.] I don’t want this place to be hell. That moment when the priest presses himself against the wall and says “I don’t want this place to be hell” sums up pretty much everything I’ve ever tried to express in my own work. The happy ending, where the woodcutter walks off with the abandoned baby as the sun comes out, always makes me cry."

In the first Science Fiction by Erin Kellison I have read, we have a wedding, politics, love, betrayal and goodness knows what else!

Mica left Sol five years ago to follow her dream, although this did mean leaving her lover behind. Simon had his own plans for Mica and himself that he never told her, pride and circumstance getting in the way. Things go well for Mica, but not so good for Simon. It is due to these circumstances that Simon shoots down Mica's craft, not knowing that she is the pilot. Choices have to be made by Mica and Simon - will they ever be able to trust each other, and be together, again?

This novella packs a punch as you have pretty much everything you could wish for. You get a back story, plot, and possible future. You learn about their political system, about the different categories of planets, and the different people who live on them. With plenty of action and adventure, this is a delightful first story in the Sol Sisters series. Definitely recommended by me.

Frantic, superhuman space escapism (spacapism? spacecapism? spacescapism?) which revels in chucking its cast of unfortunate characters head-first into ludicrous amounts of mental anguish, bodily torment, and spiritual deformation with nary a single solitary moment of repose. What do you do when you can't even trust your own mind (especially if it's scarier when you can) and don't even have the time to be sure before you act? Part sumptuous feast for the senses, part wildly fun men-on-a-mission space adventure, part bonkers slasher flick, part volatile mindfuck. Still one of the best looking movies you're likely to find, I'm never any less than blown away with how orgasmic this looks and sounds - the CGI is just immaculate. And the tech-fetish is so striking but never intrusive. Bonus points for being a pre-apocalyptic, time sensitive future sci-fi thriller that doesn't turn into a surface-level lecture on misplaced technophobia or "maybe *we're* the real virus" nonsense. Boyle and Garland are a dream team duo, knocked it right out of the park with this one - five hundred times the movie 𝘚𝘭𝘶𝘮𝘥𝘰𝘨 𝘔𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘪𝘳𝘦 is.
