Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm (1993)
Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm (1993)
1993 | Action, Animation, Family
Spin-off/prequel from the 90s TV show "Batman: The Animated Series", which comes across as more mature than that Saturday morning cartoon, and which sees Batman implicated in a series of brutal murders of various gangsters.

This also has several flashback sequences to when Bruce Wayne first donned the mask, and to a pre-Joker Joker (although no sign of Harley Quinn here, understandably) and to a lost love of Bruce Wayne's life.

Despite not showing up until roughly the half way mark, Mark Hammill also shows why his interpretation of the clown prince of crime stands as one of the very best (and almost steals the entire show from both Batman and The Phantasm)

Don't Have Nightmares
It must have seemed like a good idea at the time: do a properly frightening ghost story for the TV age, by framing it as a live broadcast from a haunted house. The really inspired thing about Ghostwatch is the decision to have well-known and trusted BBC personalities playing themselves throughout. Of course, that was probably where the trouble started - not only did it make people more likely to take the show at face value, but putting a children's TV presenter in the middle of the action ensured a rather-too-young audience was tuning in for what remains, by any objective standard, a genuinely terrifying horror story.

The trappings of live TV are painstakingly reconstructed (and maybe desconstructed); Michael Parkinson in particular gives an astonishingly good performance as a seasoned media pro slowly beginning to realise something has gone horribly wrong and the ghost has got into the TV network. Little touches, such as the ghost quietly hanging around unheralded in the back of crowd scenes, mean this is a very re-watchable show.

You could certainly argue that the makers' claim that they weren't trying to fool anybody ring a little false in view of all the evidence to the contrary, and that there is something very irresponsible about the whole enterprise - the fact that people were genuinely traumatised by a horror story they thought was true is not really something for anyone to be proud of. But that doesn't detract from the fact this is a brilliantly executed, really scary hoax.

Fun for the whole family!
Our family crowds around the TV in anticipation of the newest episode of clean sketch comedy. It’s something we can all enjoy together and go back to referenceand laugh about during the week. I love seeing my kids go back to act out the skits themselves. I love some of the repeat characters and that the cast stays up-to-date on current trends. Great show!

When Mark hears a gunshot at a neighbor's house, he investigates to find two dead bodies who have been dead for more than a couple of minutes. He's certain the killer is the person with the perfect alibi. Can he prove it? Lots of twists and turns with characters who live up to their TV show persona. Another great read.

Monk and Natalie are off to Summit, New Jersey, to help new police chief Randy Disher gain a handle on the string of burglaries plaguing the normally quiet town. This book is an absolute treat for fans of the TV show and Lee's novels based on them because of what he does with the characters.

This spoof of PI conventions centers on a security guard who thinks he has what it takes to be a real PI. After all, he's watched every PI show on TV he could find. How hard could it be? A bit dark for my usual tastes, I still enjoyed this funny look at the PI genre.

This tie in to the TV series BURN NOTICE finds former spy Michael Weston trying to track down a husband who stole his wife's fortune while figuring out a way to keep a former Russian spy from killing him. The book captures the characters and tone of the show perfectly, but the plot was a bit weak.

Heartwarming and fun
I have watched this so many times. It one of my favorite Christmas stories directed by Jim Henson.

When a poor otter family sees the opportunity of a town talent show to make some much needed cash, they seize on the opportunity.

The songs and morals in this short TV movie make this great fun for the whole family.

The songs from Paul Williams will keep you humming.
